Thursday Update!

Today we found 8 cents and 28 bottles and cans

This is going to be a quick entry as it’s pretty late and I’m really beat.
Michele found one coin on her walk this morning with Lexi. It was a nickel, which was found on Bridge Street, right in front of the Social Club.

The evening walk provided the rest of the coin finds. We found one penny on Main Street and 2 pennies at the high school.

A Profitable Wednesday!

Today we found 60 cents in change and 16 bottles and cans.

It looks as though November is going out with a bang. We continue to have good luck finding loose change and returnables, but haven’t much else interesting to report. Still, I’ll take the money and the bottles and cans for the fund.

Money scorecard – Michele was the first to get on the board with a dime she found at school walking out to her car in the parking lot. She’s found quite a few coins that way. The remaining 50 cents of coin finds came on the evening walk. First, we found 25 cents at the car wash (2 dimes and 5 pennies). Then, as we headed up Main Street on our way home, Michele spotted a very dark quarter in a driveway. She caught the outline of the coin at just the right angle and the rest is history. I’ve been calling her eagle eye for quite some time. Now you know why!

The Day After!

Today we found 12 cents in coin and 29 bottles and cans.

What a difference a day makes. Yesterday it was warm and dry and almost spring like. Today it was cold and damp, and it definitely had the feel of late November in Maine. There’s nothing like going for a run or taking a long walk in a slow, steady, raw drizzle.

Now for more cheery talk – On the money side of things, I was able to pick up a dime on my run this afternoon. I got it on Dorsey, toward the middle of the road just laying there needing to be carried away, which I did very willingly. The other 2 cents came on the evening walk. We found one penny at the high school and one penny at the car wash. We did also pick up a fair amount of bottles and cans on our trek as well, not to mention some power aid and coke caps, too. I’ll be updating those totals tomorrow.

Almost Like Spring!

Today we found 17 cents and 17 bottles and cans.

It was another delightful day with temps in the mid 50’s. If I didn’t know any better I might have thought we were heading into spring instead of winter. I know it’s not going to last but it sure was fun running in shorts and a t-shirt!

Money update – Michele found 11 cents on her run this afternoon. The first coin, a penny, was found on Sherburne Street, and then she found a dime on Oak. The evening walk produced another 5 cents, all pennies. We found 2 cents in the rite aid parking lot, 2 cents at the car wash and one penny in the 7-11 parking lot. The final contribution to the total was made via Hannaford’s supermarket. I found a penny heading out the door for the parking lot.

Outside Labor!

Today we found 24 cents in change and 25 bottles and cans.

It was another above normal temperature day here in the Northeast as we made the most of it. We did some caulking around a few trim areas and replaced a board that was showing some softness. It was in an area that sees a lot of rain and we figure that’s what caused it. Meanwhile, we had a turkey in the oven to enjoy our own Thanksgiving at home. After putting in a 7-miler, it was a welcome meal!

Coin Finds – Michele has really been on a pretty good streak finding coins on her early morning walks with Lexi. Today she found 13 cents during her travels. 12 cents came on Pleasant Street and 1 cent was recovered from Proulx Court. She did find one additional cent during her run on Payne and one coming out of church on North.

During my run I was able to snag 3 cents. The first was found on Main Street next to the funeral home. The other 2 were found on Main Street, right at the intersection with Riverbank. The remaining 6 cents were found on the evening walk. Both coins were commandeered from the car wash.

Appliance Shopping!

Today we found 84 cents and 28 bottles and cans.

Continuing on the theme from yesterday, we’ve been waiting for a good sale on a new stove, one with a hidden oven element and ceramic top. We’ve seen them for sale in the 650.00 range but we thought that was a bit much. Then we were going through the Sears flyer and we noticed a Kenmore Range with all of the features we wanted, plus it was part of a 2-day sale. Anyway, we headed to Rochester, New Hampshire to purchase one at 519.99. Plus, we got another 40 dollars off for bringing in 2 canned goods, not to mention we saved an additional 30 dollars in Maine sales tax. Now that’s a deal.

Aside from our brief road trip, we did get in some yard work. I continued working on the leaves in the backyard and then broke out the electric chainsaw I borrowed from my cousin to cut up a couple of trees that we had cut down some time ago. Most of the wood had already been cut up and used over the previous couple of winters but there were still couple of small trees left so I thought I start that process as well. Needless to say, it was a busy day.

Saturday’s coin finds – Michele once again had good luck on her morning walk with Lexi. She found 26 cents, a quarter on Mill Street and 1 penny on Webster. While at the Lilac mall to pick up the stove we also found a penny in the parking lot. The evening walk proved to be the breadwinner, though with 53 cents. We snagged 3 pennies in the rite aid parking lot, and then 54 cents at the car wash (2 dimes, 1 nickel, and 28 pennies). All of the coins were either atop one of the vacuum islands or scattered about on the ground. The final penny was found on Main Street on our way home.

Black Friday!

Today we found 92 cents in coin and 27 bottles and cans.

It seems that the residents of Springvale/Sanford were in big hurry to hit the Black Friday sales this morning because they left lots of change on the streets. Michele had a field day on her early morning walk with Lexi coming up 72 cents. The majority of it came on Mill Street where she found 2 quarters, 1 dime and 3 pennies. She also found 8 cents on Pleasant Street (1 nickel and 3 pennies).

We did manage to do a little shopping as well during the afternoon. We picked up a chop saw at the home depot plus a couple of sets of the new led Christmas lights. They use 80-90 less electricity than the standard set of lights. I did also find 3 pennies throughout the store while browsing. We also found a penny at Walmart while picking up some dog food, too.

The evening walk gave us another 16 cents. We snagged a dime on Main Street next to the Sherwin Williams, then we found another 2 cents at the car wash. The final 4 pennies came via the 7-11. They were scattered about in the parking lot.

Gobble, Gobble, And A Little Loot!

Today we found 19 cents in coin and 24 bottles and cans.

Well I hope everyone had a very satisfying Thanksgiving. I know we did as we feasted on Turkey and all the fixings, plus some dessert to boot. After that it was head to the couch and take in some football.

Talking cents – Michele, for the most part, did the majority of the damage in her coin finding ventures. She found 18 cents on the morning walk with Lexi. Find locations are as follows: 1 cent on cash corner (pleasant street), 1 cent on Sherburne, 1 cent at the corner of Pleasant Street and Railroad Ave, 1 cent on Railroad Ave, 1 cent at the Depot and 12 cents (1 dime and 2 pennies) at the high school. My only contribution to the cause was a penny found on Main Street during our evening walk to work off some post dinner bloat.

A Little Pre Thanksgiving Coin Hunting!

Today we found 22 cents and 13 bottles and cans.

With Thanksgiving on the horizon I thought it might be in order to give thanks. First, I’d like to thank all of the very generous people who graciously throw away their money for me to find. I’d also like to thank all of the beverage drinkers in the area for leaving their cans and bottles on the roads, in parks, and other areas for me to claim. Finally, I’d like to thank all of those forgetful people out there who continue to leave behind those useful everyday items that make my life easier by the day. I’ll be sure to say a little prayer of thanks and hoist a turkey leg high in the air in your honor! Happy Thanksgiving to all!

The money report – Michele found one penny on her walk this morning but I forgot now where she found it. Around noon we both went out for a run together of 2 miles. During our jaunt I found a dime on Howard Street. It’s the first coin I’ve found there in some time.

On the evening walk with Lexi we found another 11 cents. The first 6 of it (1 nickel and 1 penny) came at the car wash. Both coins were located near the vacuum stations. The final nickel was found in the Springvale Hardware parking lot.

Scenes At The Car Wash!

Today we found 78 cents in coin and 11 bottles and cans.

Ok, so I’m on the evening walk with Lexi and collecting some loose change plus whatever bottles and cans are around at the car wash. Suddenly in comes this red minivan. There’s an old lady, I’d say probably around 65 or so and this younger guy, perhaps in his late 20’s or early 30’s. I’ve seen these 2 before here and I know they’re looking for bottles. Unfortunately for them, I’ve already scooped up the bottles. Anyway, the van comes pulling in around 30 mph and stops abruptly at the last vacuum area of the 4. Before the van actually comes to a stop, this guy pops out of the passenger side like a track star, bag in hand headed for the first receptacle where he finds nothing, then quickly proceeds to the next and then the next.

Meanwhile, the old lady is acting like a field general giving him orders as he scurries along coming up empty all the while. Then, after his failed attempt to find anything, quickly heads back to the van, probably because it was pretty cold, and the old lady, who is barely mobile, gets in the drivers side and guns the engine in disgust on the way out. It’s the funniest thing you ever saw. I mean, even if they would have picked up the 10 bottles or so I had, was it really worth it. It must have cost them at least a couple of bucks in gas to go out of their way and go there. For me, it’s all about efficiency whenever possible. I’ll take the good old foot power, and the price is right.

Note to myself – carry the digital camera so I can get a picture of these two in action!

Coin talk – Michele started out the scoring with 2 pennies this morning. The first was found on Barbara, and the second was recovered on Mousam Street. I was able to snag one penny on my run this afternoon. I found it on Riverbank Street.

The evening walk netted another 65 cents. I found 29 of it at the car wash. One dime was found near a vacuum station and then I scooped up 19 cents on one of the self-serve bays on a ledge next to the coin slot (1 dime, 1 nickel, and 4 pennies). The remaining 36 cents came from the high school (1 quarter, 1 dime, and 1 penny). All of the coins were picked up in the front part of the high school area. The final dime was found at Luigi’s, where I was picking up a pizza for dinner. It was on the rug near one of the tables.

Brrrr!

Today we found 5 cents in coin and 14 bottles and cans.

It was another cold one on the roads during my run this afternoon. While not the bone-chilling cold of a January day, it was brisk enough to dawn the fleece mittens and the pullover micro-fleece top. And to think, I almost forgot what it felt like to have my eyes water from a stiff northeast wind! Ah winter, almost anyway.

Coin update – Our luck of change finding was limited to 5 pennies. The first one came on my run in the afternoon, found on Allen Street. The other 4 came on the evening walk. The first came in the rite aid parking lot, then one at the high school, one at the car wash and one at 7-11.

Back To Reality!

Today we found 30 cents in change and 12 bottles and cans.

There’s nothing like a blast of cold air to shock a person back to normal. That was the case today as I prepared for my long run, which I lengthened to 7 miles for the first time. While the temperature wasn’t one for sunbathing, it was ideal for running. Now, if I could only have mid-forty temps for all my runs and then 72 degrees and sunny for the rest of the day I’d be a happy camper!

The Money Report! – Michele found 3 lonely pennies on walk with Lexi this morning. The first was found in a washout near the depot. By the looks of it, I’m sure it had been there for quite some time. Penny number 2 was found on River Road and Penny number 3 was recovered at the high school.

I was able to score a quarter on my run. It was found on North Street, the second coin I’ve found there lately on my run through that area. The evening walk rewarded us with 2 more pennies. The first was in the rite aid parking lot and the second was snagged at the old reliable car wash.

Getting Ready For Winter!

Today we found 75 cents in change and 17 bottles and cans.

We spent the better part of the day tidying up before the really cold weather sets in. There was deck furniture to put away as well as some restructuring of the garage area. While we did accomplish a good amount of progress, there’s still some yard work to be done. Luckily, the extended forecast is supposed to be rain free for the next few days. That means I’ll be able to take care of the leaves in the front and back yard.

Money update – Michele did some real damage on her morning walk with Lexi (38 cents). She found 7 cents on Barbara (1 nickel and 2 pennies), a dime on Payne Street, a dime on Bridge Street and 1 penny in the rite aid parking. She also picked up a dime in the parking lot on her way into the Goodwill store to look for bargains.

Our evening walk also proved to be profitable as well. All of the 37 cents were found in one spot, the car wash. Most the coins were found in and around the vacuum areas, but we did pick up 16 cents in one of the self-serve bays as well. The final penny came when I went to Hannafords to pick up a couple of things for supper. It was by one of the checkout counters.

Our First Twenty!

Today we found 20.35 in bills and coin and 18 bottles and cans.

Well, it finally happened. We found our first twenty-dollar bill today. Sure, we’ve found a couple of 10’s and 2 fives in the last two years, but it was special to break into new virgin territory. Michele was the finder on her early morning walk with Lexi. She was on her way through the rite aid parking lot cursing the rain when, bingo, right in front of her was the 20 folded once and waiting to be picked up!

As for the rest of our change finds – I managed to find a lone penny on my 2 ½ miler this afternoon. It was on found on Allen Street. Michele had good luck on her run as well picking up 2 cents, one on Bridge Street and the second on Pleasant. Our evening walk gave us another 32 cents. The first 26 of it came at the car wash (1 quarter and 1 penny). Then on Main Street just up from the car wash, we found a penny and a nickel to round things out.

The Calm Before More Rain!

Today we found 1.00 dollar in bills and 34 bottles and cans.

It looks as though our balmy streak of weather is about to run out. The next slug of rain is upon us as I write this entry and when it’s over the temps will return to more seasonal levels. It was nice while it lasted though. At least we’ll be seeing the sunshine starting on Saturday for an extended period, I’ll take the 10-12 degree trade off for the dry weather anytime.

About the money – This one’s going to be pretty short as we only had one find and that was a dollar bill, which Michele found in the rite aid parking on our evening walk. She got shutout at work and I got shutout on my run. Still, if you’re only going to have one find for the day, a green back of some sort is definitely kind you want.

Dandelions in November?

Today we found 31 cents and 33 bottles and cans.

Talk about your unusual weather, it was nearly 60 here today and the sun even managed to come out for a while as we dried out some from the recent rains. These wacky temperatures have brought out the insects, too, like moths and beetles, and I even saw some dandelions while I was at Holdsworth Park today (see picture). Still believe that global warming isn’t going on? It's not right I tell you!

Currency conversation – The first of our coin finds occurred when I took Lexi down to Holdsworth Park for a little exercise after my run. While I was there I found a total of 11 cents (1 dime and 1 penny) in the gravel parking area. The rest of the finds came on the evening walk. First we snagged 3 pennies at the car wash, then, at the high school we found another 15 cents (1 dime and 1 nickel). Finally, headed up Main Street on our way home we collected another 2 cents, both were the intersection of Kirk and Main.

Break Out The Ark!

Today we found 26 cents and 57 bottles and cans.

Man oh man, somebody turn off the faucet! The rain has been coming down pretty heavy the last couple of days and late last week as well. Don’t get me wrong here, I know it’s better than snow and I do appreciate the warm temps but I’d like to get some good old sunshine once in while. According to the weatherman, Wednesday is supposed to be sunny but then we dive back into the rain Thursday and Friday. At this point I’m gathering up building materials for the ark just in case it keeps raining.

Money update – We found 2 coins today on our journeys, the first was a quarter I found on my run. It was on Main Street near rite aid. Michele found the other coin on Grove during her run. The evening walk didn’t produce any coins but we did capture a bucket load of bottles and cans. It’s also been a while since we’ve found any out-of-the-ordinary things. Maybe tomorrow will be the day.

Got Wood?

Today we found 30 cents and 38 bottles and cans.

As you can see by the picture we’ve been busy moving wood into the garage for winter the last few days. 4 loads later and this is the end result. I don’t think we’ll have any trouble keeping warm this winter.

Change findings – Michele managed to score one penny on her morning walk with Lexi. She found it on Mill Street which continues to be haven for coin finding lately. She also found one penny while paying our first oil bill of the season, ugh! It was on the ground waiting to be picked up as she opened her door.

During our runs we both had luck collecting currency. Michele snagged one penny on Allen Street and I found a quarter coming up Main. The evening walk yielded one penny which was found at Springvale Hardware.

Staying Dry!

Today we found 8 cents and 12 bottles and cans.

The word of the day was rain, and lots of it. The morning for the most part was dry but in the early afternoon the front moved in. As luck would have it, I checked intellicast and noticed I had a window to get my long run in. So, around 12:45 pm I headed out and while it did mist, the real rain held off until about 10 minutes after I finished my run and stretching. Talk about timing!

Money update – Michele did all the money finding today on morning walk with Lexi and run afterwards. She found a nickel on Pleasant Street, 1 penny on Whitham and a penny on Allen. The penny on her run came on Grove Street. We didn’t find any money on the evening walk but did manage to collect a dozen bottles and one 12-pack label good for 10 points on the coke rewards.

Collecting On A Holiday!

Today we found 19 cents and 14 bottles and cans.

Saturday was not a day off for the crew here at “A Coin At A Time”. It was a holiday though at the Post Office where I attempted to mail 2 packages. I thought it was funny that there were no cars in the parking lot but I went right up to the door anyways. It’s them I realized, “Hey, it’s a holiday”. I guess I’ll just have to mail them out on Monday.

Coin Info – Michele found a big chunk of the change this morning during her walk with Lexi. She found a dime on Main Street, then single pennies at the high school, Barbara and Sherburne Street. On her run she found one cent on Grove.

The evening walk garnered 5 cents, all pennies. The first four of them came at the car wash and the other penny was found in the rite aid parking lot.

A Salute To The Coin Givers!

Today we found 18 cents and 14 bottles and cans.

It only seems fitting to recognize all those hard working folks who throw their money away. From pennies to dollars, from bottles to cans, our coffers continue to grow thanks in big part to you, oh unwise throwers of the money. May you continue litter the streets with your wealth! I salute you!

Coin Talk – While not a great day out on the streets of Springvale/Sanford, we did snatch up those coins we found along the way. On my run, a short 2-½ miler, I picked up a nickel on Mill St. After the run I took Lexi down to Holdsworth Park where I found a penny and about 10 bottles and cans.

On the evening walk, my only find was a dime that came at the car wash. Michele came through though with a couple of pennies she found while getting a coffee at the Dunkin Donuts in Gray.

Jim Solo!

Today we found 20 cents and 43 bottles and cans.

I was on my own today as Michele headed up north for a powwow with her parents (her mother in particular). There’s been some firing of shots across the bow lately because of our current living conditions (not married), and her Mom (she’s old school, 76) has taken her to task for it (and me to some degree). I’ve been laughing it off but Michele is a whole lot more sensitive than I am. Needless to say we’ve been treated like the black sheep of the family on her side so she headed up alone to clear the air. Enough said.

My coin finding was limited to my run and the evening walk with Lexi. I didn’t find anything on my run, a 4-miler, but I did have some success on the evening walk. The 15 cents found during our trek came from two different areas. Coin number one was found at the car wash inside one the self-serve bays, and coin number 2 was recovered on Main Street about 3 feet out in the road. I will confess that it was a little more difficult to locate the coins due to the morning rain which resulted in many wet spots on the road, thus reducing the overall available area that I’m normally used to. Oh well!

Edit to entry - I forgot to add in the nickel that Michele found on her morning walk with Lexi.

More Rain!

Today we found 53 cents and 12 bottles and cans.

The weather report for the day was rain, constant and heavy at times. Sure, I managed to deal with it, but it made for some soggy going in the quest for coins.

Michele had no luck on her early morning walk with Lexi. Then, a little later on my run, I didn’t find anything although it was only lightly raining at that point. When I got back, I decided to take Lexi for her walk, solo, instead of waiting for Michele. She had the field hockey banquet to deal with so I wasn’t sure if she would have any extra time. Turns out I was right.

Anyway, I did have some luck on our journey securing 1 penny on Riverbank (I love that street name), and 7 cents (1 nickel, and 2 pennies) on Dorsey. I did also fill up Lexi’s pack with a dozen bottles as well. When got back from the walk I was supposed to get ready and go the banquet as well, but I was really tired and pretty wet so I decided to forgo the event and relax at home. I guessed I missed out on a good feed and lots of interesting conversation, but my body appreciated the down time. The remaining 45 cents arrived home with Michele. Turns out she found it in the bottom of the lost and found bag when cleaning out the clothes that were left behind. You gotta love those high schoolers.

Avoiding The Shutout!

Today we found 2 cents and 102 bottles and cans.

Coins were a rare commodity today in our ongoing quest of changing finding. Michele did find one penny on her morning walk with Lexi and one nice looking marble as well. However, things got considerably harder after that point. Michele didn’t find anything at work. Her run turned up zero and my run netted the same. The evening walk didn’t prove to be a whole lot better as we only found a single penny in the Nasson College parking lot. On the positive side of things, we did collect a fair number of bottles and cans to take the sting out of the low coin find totals. Some days you get the bear, some days the bear gets you.

Sidebar – With today’s total of bottles and cans, we officially crossed the 13,000 mark for the year and the 23,000 mark all-time.

Finding The Time!

Today we found 35 cents and 13 bottles and cans.

We had another pretty good day of coin finding even though things were really hectic for the better part of Monday. I recently opened a second store on ebay for all of my non-graded cards of which I have a limitless amount. There’s been lots of scanning and tons of descriptions to write to say the least, and many more ahead. On the other side, my first store holds all of my hi-end graded items, then there’s constant buying as well and you can see where I’m going with this. I do love it though and need to prioritize my time a little better. Besides all of the ebay stuff I had to run a couple of errands as well which took up a couple of hours.

Tomorrow doesn’t get a lot easier either as I’ll be over at my cousin’s house early in the morning to load up the truck with firewood. We’ll load it up over there, truck it over here and stack in the garage. It’ll probably take 2 trips at least but we’ll only be doing one tomorrow so there is a silver lining.

Money talk – On my run of 3 miles this afternoon I came across a dime in the road on Pleasant Street. It was a little beat up from being driven over but nonetheless recognizable. Michele commandeered a penny at school while walking through the halls. The evening walk netted us the lion’s share of the finds with 24 cents. We snagged one penny at the car wash, 12 cents at the high school (1 dime and 2 pennies), one penny at the 7-11 and a dime on Main Street.

Chilly Conditions!

Today we found 15 cents and 7 bottles and cans.

There certainly has been a chill in the air lately. The temps have been below normal and the nights are nippy. It does make for good running conditions though as I just love the cool, crisp air. There really is nothing like it.

Speaking of running, during my run of 6 ½ miles I did snag one coin, a nickel. Money aside I felt great on the run and really pushed the pace for the first 2 ½ miles or so just to see what kind of shape I was in. You have to drop the hammer once in while during the base mileage build up to give you that turnover. Plus, it breaks up the steady pace of the run. Needless to say, my fitness is steadily improving as I work toward raising my overall base mileage and focus my training toward the Spring racing season.

Other money finds – besides the nickel, Michele found 7 cents on her walk. The first 2 cents were found at the depot and the nickel was found in a parking lot directly across from the Springvale Library on Main Street. In addition, on her run she found another penny on Oak Street. The remaining 2 cents were found on the evening walk. The first coin was found in the rite aid parking lot and the second on Main Street, headed home.

Inching Along!

Today we found 36 cents and 91 bottles and cans.

November has already been a good month for us here at “One Coin At A Time”. With back-to-back days of over 1-dollar finds we’ve been testing the odds lately. While our day did yield some coins, it was more of the back to normal routine of coin finding totals for us.

Michele had a successful walk this morning with Lexi coming up with 28 cents. She found a quarter on Main St, near the corner of Frost. The other 3 penny locations are unaccounted for.

In the afternoon we went over to my cousins to see about moving over our firewood. We had some wood left over from last year here, but we’re running low and we’ve had some cold days lately so haste makes waste, especially with those high oil prices! After we got back from visiting we went out for our evening walk. During our stroll we snagged another 8 cents. The first 2 coins, both pennies were found in the rite aid parking lot. The next 3, again all pennies, came from the car wash. Then we found one penny in the Subway parking lot and 2 pennies perusing the parking lot at Nasson College.

Patience Pays Off!

Today we found 45 cents and 21 bottles and cans.

Friday was yet another day of good coin hunting though for most of the day it didn’t seem like it. Michele got shutout on her early morning walk with Lexi. Then, running errands, I got shutout at the Cumberland Farms while getting gas, the post office while mailing packages and grocery shopping at Demoulas in Somersworth.

We finally broke the ice so to speak on our run. Michele was going out for a 3-miler and I decided to join her. During our trek we picked up one penny on Main Street right in front of the Village consignment shop. The rest of our bounty came via the evening walk. We found 10 cents at the car wash (1 dime). At the high school we netted 8 cents (1 nickel and 3 pennies). Then on Main we found 26 cents (1 quarter and one penny). The penny was found near Miller Ford and the quarter we recovered at the intersection between Oak and Main.

Meet George!

Today we found 1.05 in bills and coin and 18 bottles and cans.

I’m pretty beat tonight so this is going to be short. Michele found a penny on her walk this morning with Lexi, location unknown. The rest of our finds came on the evening the walk. We found 1 cent in the Subway parking lot, 2 pennies at the high school and one penny in the rite aid parking lot. Our big find of a dollar bill came on the way the home headed up Main St. It was lying on the sidewalk. We just happened to be in the right place at the right time.

Change Is Where You Find It!

Today we found 1.27 in change and 30 bottles and cans.

When we first started change hunting, it was a learning process. First, we had to train our eyes to scan the ground quickly and efficiently, looking for familiar circular patterns in gravel or dirt areas and discovering how the use of light angles reveal coins we might have otherwise missed. Whether walking, running, riding a bike or driving, it became a force of habit to scan the area wherever we were.

One of the most important items on the list though was honing in on those areas that were more likely to produce change or other valuables on a regular basis. Using the aforementioned formula has greatly benefited us, both in our improved day-to-day totals but also in the good use of time vested in our change finding tactics. There’s an old cliché “time is money”, well my friends, even in the process of change hunting those words ring true.

Money recap – Our first coin of the day came on my run, a single penny, which was found on Main Street. After officiating a field hockey game, Michele arrived home with 3 cents in hand. Turns out those pennies were found at school somewhere. The main cache of coins came on the evening walk as usual. First, at the old reliable car wash we found 93 cents (3 quarters, 1 dime and 8 pennies). The 3 quarter were on one of the islands near a vacuum, the rest of the coins were scattered about in the parking areas. Next, at the high school we snagged another 24 cents (2 dimes and 4 pennies). Again, all the coins were found in and around the parking area and walkways of the school. After that we found one penny at the 7-11 and a nickel near the now vacant karate studio. I guess the rent must have been too high!
