It’s A Cap Attack!

Today we found 35 cents in change and 85 bottles and cans.

Saturday morning came early for Michele as the girl’s softball team she coaches; along with the boy’s baseball team had a bottle drive today. In a 6-hour period the gang did 1,500 and the proceeds will be used to buy warm-ups for team, or at least contribute to it. The one benefit we got out of it was ton of caps, just look at the mess of them. There’s everything from dr. pepper to coke to the pepsi and dew free ride promotions currently wrapping up or in progress. Looks like I’ll be entering codes for quite some time!

Money Report – Coins were a little hard to come by today. Michele found 3 tokens on her walk this morning before the bottle run. They’re all from the fifth wheel, which is an xxx spot. Looks like someone has a fetish for peep shows, lol. Now showing, Debbie Does Dallas and Texas Long Horn! Our first coin finds of the day though came on the run. Michele found one penny on Sherburne and I found 2 on Bridge Street right next to the social club.

On the evening walk we scored 24 cents (1 dime, 2 nickels and 4 pennies) at the high school. All the finds were out in front of the building. Some we on the ground near the parking areas and the remainder were near the front entrance of the school. We also picked up 3 pennies in the rite aid parking lot and 4 cents at the car wash. Michele found the final penny earlier in the day during the bottle run to round out the scoring.

On a personal note – I’m glad UCLA is out! In my opinion they were the luckiest final four team I’ve ever seen. Pittsburgh and Kansas both should have beat them but they just couldn’t finish their shots. Florida did tonight and gave them an awful whipping! Oh, and as far as my bracket update, I had Kansas winning it all so I’m dead. Bummer….

Tissue Box Cover, Anyone?

Today we found 88 cents in change and 56 bottles and cans.

While Friday was a day for running errands, it also turned out to be a good day for coin finding as well. However, today total came from one area, the car wash. The 88 cents (2 quarters, 2 dimes, and 18 pennies were found in and around the vacuum areas. We also picked up a nice-looking tissue box cover. In addition to those finds there was also a handsome reward of bottles and cans to be added to the fund.

Two Days Of Wind!

Today we found 52 cents in change and 43 bottles and cans.

The last couple of days we’ve been under the spell of a pesky wind. According to the meteorologist we’re between a high to our west and a low to the east, giving us a pressure gradient. At times the old wind’s been howling up a storm to the tune of gusts between 20 to 40 mph. Thankfully the wind died down tonight and tomorrow will be wind free.

Money Report – after getting my run in, I needed to send out a couple of packages to the post office, so I hopped on my bike and headed down. Once completed, I took a short ride around a few areas I had noticed there were bottles and cans to be found. In the retrieval process I also found 12 cents (1 dime and 2 pennies). All of the change was located on the ground at Pleasant Street (cash corner).

On the evening walk we pulled in another 40 cents for the piggy bank. First, we found 38 cents at the car wash (3 dimes and 8 pennies), plus a piece of firewood and a neat-looking marble. All of the coins were in close proximity to the vacuum areas. The last two coins, both pennies, were collected from the skateboard park, and on Main Street in front of Luigi’s. In addition to the previously mentioned finds, we added another superball to our collection. Both the superball and marble jars are becoming quite full!

Coins In Different Places!

Today we found 2.04 in change and 36 bottles and cans.

We finally got a big score from a coinstar machine that many others in the change blogging community often comment about. It happened at Hannaford’s supermarket while I was there to pick up a few items. As I was walking by (I always check it) the coinstar machine I noticed there were coins and quickly moved in to scoop them up. Upon further investigation, my efforts yielded 71 cents (6 dimes and 1 one penny), plus a five pence coin and a Bermuda 10 cent piece. Not a bad haul if I don’t say so myself.

The rest of the coins found during the day came on the evening walk Lexi. The first coin we came across was a dime found at rite aid. It was just off of the parking lot surface lying in the grass. At the car wash we also picked up a dime that was under the vending products area. Finally, on our way home, we were going by the courthouse when I noticed couple of bottles near a drainage area that’s adjacent to the property. It’s a big grassy area for the most part with a small place for any standing water to drain. Anyway, I went down and picked up the 3 or 4 bottles down there and on my way up I discovered a small pile of coins on the hillside, 1.13 to be exact (4 quarters, 1 dime, and 3 pennies). We saw a bunch of kids sliding there a month ago so I’m guessing that one of them may have lost the change but who knows.

Back To Normal....

Today we found 13 cents in change and 58 bottles and cans.

After a nice run of solid coin finding days, our streak of dollar plus totals came to an end. The entire 13 cents we did find came via the evening walk with our dog. Our initial find was a popper size marble though, oddly enough. We always keep our eyes open for anything interesting and Michele spotted the marble just off the sidewalk partially hidden in the dirt.

As far as coins go, we found 8 cents at the high school (1 nickel and 3 pennies). Then at the car wash we snagged the remaining 5 cents (all pennies). All of the coins were found in and around the vacuum bay areas as usual.

Rainy Day Money....

Today we found 1.04 in change and 58 bottles and cans.

For the third day in a row we topped the dollar mark. It started innocently enough when I found 2 pennies on my run. The first one came on Allen Street and the second penny on Harris. I took the bike out right after because I had spotted some bottles and cans during the run. While collecting them up I also found another penny on Harris Street.

During the evening walk with Lexi we totaled up another 73 cents (1 quarter, 2 dimes, 5 nickels and 3 pennies). We started out our trek with a nickel in the rite aid parking lot. Then at the car wash we found 68 cents. All of the coins except for one penny were scattered around the different vacuum bays. The lone exception, the remaining penny was on the ground in one of the self-serve bays. Michele came home with the final 31 cents (1 quarter, 1 nickel and 1 penny), which she found at school.

Helping Hands....

Today we found 2.18 in change and 129 bottles and cans.

The onslaught continued today as we had another great day of coin finding. On Michele’s early morning walk with Lexi she found an amazing 79 cents (1 quarter, 3 dimes, 3 nickels and 9 pennies). First she found 2 pennies on Sherburne Street and then she hit the jackpot finding 77 cents on the ground at the intersection of Pleasant Street and Railroad Ave. Nice going girl! We also picked up 6 cents on our run in the afternoon (1 nickel and 1 penny). The nickel was found on Harris while the penny was recovered on Main.

On the evening walk we cashed in once again with another 1.33 in coin. Things began with 2 pennies found in the rite aid parking lot. Next, at the car wash we snagged a huge pile of coins scattered all over the ground near one of the vacuum stations which amounted to 1.30 in change (1 quarter, 6 dimes, 5 nickels, and 20 pennies). The last penny was secured near Luigi’s Pizza on the sidewalk as we were headed home. It was also another banner day for bottles and cans as well!

Breaking The Dollar Mark!

Today we found 1.39 in change and 102 bottles and cans.

We broke through the dollar mark for the first time this month with an expressive coin total amount. Michele found the first 45 cents on her walk during her morning walk with Lexi (1 quarter, 1 dime and 2 nickels. She found a nickel on Mill Street and then a quarter, dime and nickel on Ellis street that was all together.

On the evening walk we came up with another 94 cents (3 quarters, 1 dime, and 9 pennies). All of the coin finds came from the car wash, most of which were located near the vacuum areas. We had a landslide day with bottles and cans, too, plus another 4 New Hampshire tokens. It seems like we’ve been seeing quite a few of those lately even though they haven’t been in use in quite some time.

Heading Into the Weekend....

Today we found 94 cents in change and 82 bottles and cans.

It was back-to-back nice days here in the northeast for a change, but speaking of change, it’s coming, in the form of snow tomorrow evening. It’s not supposed to be anything significant (1 to 3 inches) but it’s snow nevertheless.

Tourney Update – Both Michele and I went 7 for 8 over the last few days and we’re in pretty good shape in the espn pool. The only game I couldn’t win was the Oregon/Unlv tilt, in which I was really pulling for the rebels. We’ll see how things turn out tomorrow.

Money Update – What a difference a day makes with regard to our coin finding ventures. Michele came home with 3 pennies she found at school to get things started. On the evening we found a quarter on Main Street heading south, and then a penny a little further down the street. We also found 20 cents (2 dimes) in the rite aid parking lot. Next, while at the car wash we pocketed another 41 cents (3 dimes, 1 nickel and 6 pennies). Most of the coins were scattered in and around the vacuum island areas but we did find a dime by the automatic wash area and a penny in one of the self-serve bays. The final 3 pennies were picked up on our way through the 7-11 parking lot.

The Usual....

Today we found 9 cents in change and 62 bottles and cans.

There’s nothing too exciting to talk about other than the ncaa tourney. I’m still looking pretty good in the espn pool and with a little luck I’ll keep moving up the ladder.

Money Report – Coins were scarce today. I rode my bike down to the post office and after I went for a short ride where I found 2 pennies. The first coin was found on Pine Street and the second came on Sherburne.

The evening walk netted us 7 more cents (1 nickel and 2 pennies). One penny was by a vacuum station and the other nickel and penny were in one of the self-serve bays.

Hump Day....

Today we found 31 cents in change and 14 bottles and cans.

Well we really didn’t get very much melt today like I thought we would. In fact, even though it was sunny there was a constant wind blowing that made it feel even cooler. I would have been out in it doing a run but I’m still nursing a piriform muscle injury, which has been rather painful and has been nagging me for the last few weeks off and on. Hopefully a few more days off will do the trick and I can resume my normal training again.

Money Report – When Michele arrived home from practice she had a penny in tow. Turns out she found it on the way out of school in the parking lot. The rest of coinage was found during our evening walk. On Main Street, just down from our house we found dime in a gravel driveway. By the looks of it I’ll bet it had been there quite some time. We also found 6 cents near the Cumberland Farms (1 nickel and 1 penny). Then we found 3 pennies at the car wash near the vacuum areas, and 11 cents at the sweet creations bakery (1 dime and 1 penny), who make great tasting pastries by the way. Both coins were on the ground in their parking lot.

Spring Is Here!

Today we found 39 cents in change and 45 bottles and cans.

Besides the gusty wind we had all day around here, the weather wasn’t really too bad, especially for the first official day of spring. Lexi and I went out for our walk a tad bit earlier than usual because Michele had softball practice for the girls (indoors). Yep, the baseball/softball season is just around the corner and while they might not be out of the field for some time (snow), they still need to get their practices in. The real warm-up begins on Thursday though when temps get up into the 50’s and will remain there for at least a few days. Let the melting begin!

Money Talk – All of our finds today came via the evening walk. Our first coin, a penny, was found in the rite aid parking lot. The remaining 38 cents (1 quarter, 1 dime, and 3 pennies) came via the car wash. All of the coins were found near the vacuum areas on the ground. We also snagged a healthy amount of bottles and cans for our efforts.

On The Road!

Today we found 9 cents in change and 23 bottles and cans.

Monday was a busy one for me as I had few errands to take care of. First it was off to Staples to pick up some bubble mailers for the business. Next, I stopped at Demoulas to take advantage of a deal on hamburg at 1.69 a pound (80 percent lean). Then I needed to make a deposit at the bank in Somerworth and mail out some items at the post office. Prior to all of those stops I also went down to the recycling center and collected another 49.05 for the fund.

Money Talk – As I mentioned earlier, I needed to stop at Demoulas and on my out I spotted a nickel and what I thought was a penny. It turned out to be a fake cent. On the evening walk we came up with another 4 cents, 3 of which came via the car wash and one penny that we found on the sidewalk near Luigi’s.

Tourney Update....

Today we found 11 cents in change and 15 bottles and cans.

With the fourth day of the tourney out of the way and the final 16 teams in place, we haven’t had too many surprises. Wisconsin is out, but that’s the only top seed other than Vanderbilt, who by the way I did have in my bracket. Still, it’s going to be tough to pull out that number one position in the espn pool, lol! I’m at 97.2 percent in one of my brackets and 91.2 percent in the other 3 brackets. Hopefully, I’ll get a few breaks and things will go my way.

Money Report – We found 2 coins in our travels today. For the most part, the roads are clear but everything else is snow covered, well, almost everything. We did find a penny at the car wash by one of the vacuum stations, and then at the 7-11, under some slush, Michele picked out a dime. We also added a small cache of bottles and cans to the coffers and one cool looking marble.

Digging Out!

Today we found 18 cents in change and 21 bottles and cans.

Finally, the storm is over! I’m not exactly sure of the totals, I’m guessing we got somewhere in the 10-inch range, but there is a lot of blowing snow so that makes it hard to estimate. I’ll tell you what was hard, though. It was shoveling snow that was saturated with water. During the storm we did shovel twice, handling the bulk of the snow, but the snowplows gave us a nice present in the morning when we got up to do the final cleanup. Needless to say it was brutal, at best and this is getting old!

Money Update – The evening walk was the key to our success in our coin finding today, and we snagged all of the coins at the car wash with a total of 18 cents (1 dime, and 8 pennies). All of the pennies were found around the vacuum stations if you can believe it, and the dime was found in the self-serve area.

Nor’easter 2!

Today we found no change and 11 bottles and cans.

Well folks, we’re in the midst of our second nor’easter in the month of March. The snow has been coming down pretty heavy and more is falling every minute. They raised the totals, too as the changeover to rain is supposed to occur later than predicted. Go away winter!

Money Talk – We didn’t find any loot on the streets because everything was snow covered when we hit the roads. We did come up with a small amount of bottles and cans though for our efforts.

Storm Front!

Today we found 34 cents in change and 41 bottles and cans.

It looks as though things are shaping up for another nor’easter in New England again. The most recent totals I’ve heard so far are from 4 to 8 inches with a changeover to rain. That should make for a wet, heavy snow. That should make shoveling really interesting.

Money Report – Michele and I did our run together today. I’m still be bothered by a muscle injury so I thought it would be good to run a shorter distance at an easier pace, and, have the chance to run with my favorite person in the whole world. During our trek we came up with 21 cents (1 dime, 1 nickel, and 6 pennies). We also found a super-sized superball as well. On the evening walk we came up with another 13 cents (1 nickel and 8 pennies). The car wash contributed 5 pennies to the cause. All of the coins were found near the vacuum areas. At the 7-11 we scored another penny, and then near Luigi’s we found a nickel and 2 more pennies to round out the total.

Home and Garden Party—Plate!

Today we found 73 cents in change and 94 bottles and cans.

All systems were go today as the sun broke out and the temps soared into the 60’s. I actually did my run in shorts and a t-shirt, which felt great. Michele did her run in the same type of attire. And, for the first time this year, I was out on the mountain bike. Too bad we’re in for some nasty weather the next few days and then some below normal temps after that.

Money Talk – We’ve seen an increase in our coin findings totals lately and today was no exception. While out on my bike ride I found 3 pennies, two of which were on Oak Street, an area that I had earmarked for bottles and cans. It was pure luck that I found them at all as I was stopped to pick up a bottle and looking down, noticed the pennies. I also found a third penny on Main Street heading home with the booty.

The evening walk produced a nice amount of revenue as well. At the car wash we found 34 cents (2 dimes and 14 pennies). All of the coins were in the usual spots, in and around the vacuum bay areas. Heading up Main Street we also found a single penny on the edge of the sidewalk. At the 7-11 we found a quarter, and near the courthouse we found a dime.

In addition to the coins, bottles and cans, we came across a sharp-looking home and garden party stoneware floral pattern plate. Perhaps this will be another item for the yard sale.

Hitting For The Cycle!

Today we found 58 cents in change and 34 bottles and cans.

It was just a beautiful pre-spring day here in the Northeast. I didn’t have time for a run because of scheduling issues but I did get Lexi out for a walk. Tomorrow is supposed to be the gem of the week with temps in the 60’s and then we begin the slow, steady, downhill slide into the 30’s and low 40’s. It seems that winter is not ready to give up the ghost just yet.

Money Report – During the aforementioned walk with Lexi, we were able to recover all of the coins for the day. At the car wash we found a total of 6 cents (all pennies). We found all of them in and around the vacuum station areas. On Main Street, just before the courthouse, we found a nice cache of coins totaling 51 cents (1 quarter, 2 dimes, 1 nickel and 1 penny). They were with a few inches of each other lying on the grass where some snow had melted. The final penny was found on Kirk Street as we were heading for home.

All Aboard!

Today we found 27 cents in change and 54 bottles and cans.

Now here’s something you don’t see every day. It’s a 25-cent gaming token from the Norwegian Cruise Lines. This stylish silver-colored coin was found during our evening walk. Now all we need to do is book our cruise!

Money Talk – Michele found a dime during her pitch-black walk this morning with Lexi. Apparently she caught just the right light angle and bingo, there it was. The remaining 17 cents were found on the evening walk. First stop was the high school where we found 7 cents (1 nickel and 2 pennies), and then at the car wash we came up with another 7 cents (all pennies). We also found single pennies on Sanford Boulevard, Main Street, and Springvale Hardware to round out the scoring.

March Madness!

Today we found 62 cents in change and 107 bottles and cans.

I always say there’s nothing like a little basketball, especially when it’s free, like this NCAA Basketball. And wouldn’t you know it’s just in time for the Tourney! Speaking of the tourney I hope everyone is filling out his or her brackets, it should be a great tournament.

Money Update – Michele once again found 3 cents on her walk. The coins were recovered on Sherburne, Mill and Pleasant Streets, respectively. We had pretty good luck on our evening walk, too. All of the finds though came from one area, the good old car wash. The 59 cents in change (3 dimes, 1 nickel, and 24 pennies) were found in and around the vacuum bay areas. The majority of them were in 2-foot radius scattered about as though someone tossed them in the air. I say, thank you very much!

The Warm Up!

Today we found 17 cents in change and 34 bottles and cans.

We got a little taste of things to come with some spring like weather. It made our runs simply delightful and the walk equally enjoyable. There are more warm days ahead as the forecast is for temps in the 40’s and 50’s all week. Now for a word from our sponsors!

Coin Conversation – With the warm temps you’d think that we’d start really cleaning up on the currency out on the roads. In fact, it’s been completely the opposite. We’ve been finding coins but not nearly with the kind of the success we enjoyed in the first two months of 2007. I’ve also seen a couple of new players in the recyclables arena. Coming back from the movie last night we saw individuals, an older guy and a young kid riding by on bikes. The kid was doing all the work it seemed as he had about 4 good-sized bags of returnables while the older guy was riding out front. It was pretty cold last night, too, when I saw these guys. They had to be freezing! I also ran into to another older guy up at the car wash we usually hit today. He was totally the opposite of the previous 2 in that he appeared to be your average middle-class guy. Too bad for him the well had run dry.

Anyway, Michele found a grand total of 3 pennies on her walk, and all of them we confiscated from the Cumberland Farms on Main Street. The remaining 14 cents (1 dime and 4 pennies) were found at the car wash (13) and the high school (1). Those coins were found on the evening walk.

More Coins For The Pot!

Today we found 22 cents in change and 13 bottles and cans.

Things are looking up. Unlike the rest of the country, the temps are finally starting to moderate. We actually made it in the high 20’s today, which feels like a heat wave after this cold snap. It certainly made running and any other outdoor activities bearable. Now I’m waiting for the though 40 degree temps to arrive tomorrow, then, it will really start to feel like spring!

Money Report – I got things going on the coin finding front with a snag of single penny on Mill Street. When Michele came home, she had a penny for the pot that she found at work. She also found a dime on Main Street during her run. The rest of our finds came on the evening walk with Lexi. First we found one penny on our way out of the car wash. Next, near Roles Street, we also found a penny, and at the 7-11 we found 2 cents. The final 2 discoveries came on Main St where we snagged a nickel and a penny, both near the courthouse.

Sidebar – We went and saw the movie Ghost Rider last night. There was lots of action but overall we were not impressed. On a scale of 1-10 we give it a 5 to 5.5.

It’s Elemental!

Today we found 4 cents in change and 39 bottles and cans.

Lately I’ve been reading some really enlightening posts with regard to the environment and global warming, and it seems like more and more people are getting into the act. Their reasons may be different but the goal is all the same, to reduce the overall carbon footprint that each of us leave in wake of living in this world.

If you’re not doing anything to help then maybe it’s time you did. Try recycling for starters; it easy, and you actually see some monetary value for your efforts (i.e. bottle bill, recycling center). How about replacing some of your existing light bulbs with the energy efficient ones. Again, it’s easy and saves you more money. There are many more ways to become green and invest in the planet, but you get the idea.

Money Talk – Not much to convey with regard to coin finding. During my grocery shopping run in New Hampshire, I found a single penny in the Demoulas parking lot. I also found penny at the South Street car wash in Somersworth. Every once in a while I’ll stop by and check it since it’s only a minute out of the way. A little while later I drove down the car wash because of the brutal cold (I combined the trip with a stop at Dunkin Donuts for coffee) and found a penny in one of the self-serve bays. The last penny was recovered from the Dunkin Donuts parking lot where I stopped to pick up a pound of coffee. In addition, I snagged another New Hampshire token, adding to the hoard I already own.

In-Between

Today we found 27 cents in change and 20 bottles and cans.

With more bitter cold on the doorstep, we battled through our runs and walk. Tomorrow is supposed to be the end of the arctic air with a gradual warm up on Friday and 45 by Sunday. I say amen to that!

Money Roundup – We spread the wealth, so-to-speak, from a few different areas today. Michele snagged 3 pennies at school today. She found them in the hall just outside her room, coincidence or intentional? Either way we’ll take them. During her run she also helped the cause picking up a dime on Allen Street. The rest of our finds came via the very cold evening walk. We found 1 penny in the rite aid parking lot and then another 13 cents at the car wash (1 dime and 3 pennies). All of the coins were found in and around the vacuum area stations on the ground.

Back To Winter!

Today we found 13 cents in change and 23 bottles and cans.

It felt more like January today than early March, as the weather was downright brutal. According to the weatherman, a low-pressure system moved out to sea south of us and that resulted in cold blast of arctic air that’s been pulled down from Canada. All you had to do is take one step outside to get the effect. It didn’t help matters any that we had a strong wind all day with gusts between 20 and 40 mph. I’m not a human thermometer, but I’d say this was definitely the coldest day of the year. The sad news is that we still have 2 more days of it to contend with. I think it’s time for winter to go away!

Money Update – Well it was too cold to do any kind of walk for fear of becoming a Popsicle, so in lieu of that I took a short drive down to the car wash bundled up to the hilt. I found 13 cents (1 dime and 3 pennies) near one of the vacuum areas on the ground. I also gathered a small cache of bottles and cans as well but I wasn’t as thorough as I normally would be because of the bitter cold. Hey, a little is better than nothing.

Finally, here’s a little poetry that certainly pertains to this day and it’s weather.

Firewood

All day these pieces have been waiting their turn—
The oak, the maple, the birch,

It’s a fire they want—a hearth of coals
Engaging enough for a grainy walnut, a hearty beech,

A place to warm old bones
And the coal-black of iron—

That dusty-red glow
That settles in the womb of a flickering star,
Chasing the polar night away.

Words Of Wisdom....

Today we found 8 cents in change and 25 bottles and cans.

We came across another interesting find today in our travels. It appears to be a stainless steel case for an audio book, though there isn’t one inside. However, there is a quote from Ralph Waldo Emerson on the front, who just happens to be a great American author, poet and philosopher. The inscription reads “some books leave us free, and some books make us free”. The big question now is, what audio book was inside? Was it a classic or perhaps something more modern? Alas, we shall probably never know….

Money Talk – While we did have good luck on our coin finding treks, the total was less than spectacular. I started the scoring with a penny that I found while getting gas at Cumberland Farms. Michele found another penny on her run (that seems to be the trend lately). This one was recovered from Riverbank. The remaining 6 cents came from the car wash on the evening walk. All 6 were spread out in no particular order on the ground near the vacuum areas.

Par For The Course!

Today we found 83 cents in change and 3 bottles and cans.

Sunday continued the trend of solid coin finding days. Michele found another penny, this time though it was during the morning walk with Lexi. She found on Mill St. The rest of our coins came from the car wash via the evening walk. The 82 cents (3 quarters and 7 pennies) were once again found in and around the vacuum station areas. Other than that, things were pretty uneventful.

A Day After....

Today we found 83 cents in change and 18 bottles and cans.

One day removed from the snowstorm and things are returning to normal. We did get a changeover to sleet, and then freezing rain, and finally to all rain, which lowered the totals a little bit. Nevertheless we received around 8 inches or so and that’s plenty for me. It was nice to have that warm sun come out to begin the melting today. I am so ready for spring!

Money Update – We didn’t let any stinking snowstorm keep us down for long as we were out and about, and on the lookout for loot. Michele found our first coin of the day on her run. She snagged a single penny heading up Mill Street. While at Marten’s, a discount store, I spotted a dime near the courtesy desk, I quickly moved in with the stealth of cat and secured the find. The jackpot total of the day came from the car wash on the evening walk where we came up with 72 cents (1 quarter, 2 dimes, 3 nickels and 12 pennies). All the coins were collected from the vacuum station areas where they were scattered about on the ground.

Sidebar – We received our first reward from the coke promotion game currently underway. It’s a sharp-looking Sony dvd player (see picture). Not too bad for free and we still have a lot more points to redeem. I also won 4 lift tickets to Mount Sunapee (216 dollar value) as well. Another free prize just for entering bonus codes as an fsn sportsnut, Life is good!

The Hypocrite!

Today we found no change and no bottles and cans.

I was a little surprised to learn that the America’s leading force against global warming has been running up a hefty little energy bill to the tune of 30,000 dollars a year. Al Gore has been talking the talk but not walking the walk. Sure, there was mention of upcoming solar panels to be installed at his home, and the current use of energy efficient light bulbs, but that seems a bit after the fact, doesn’t it? Al, it’s not just about using energy from renewable resources, it’s about physically reducing your carbon footprint.

For starters, think about installing some energy efficient windows and appliances along with the solar panels. Owning a hybrid vehicle wouldn’t be a bad idea either, nor would properly insulating that mansion he and his family live in. Then there’s the recycling aspect to consider, like bottles and cans for instance, and how about using those low watt, highly efficient bulbs in every room, plus replacing those gas lanterns that surround the property. Do that, and then you make a real dent in the push against global warming.

Money Report – well folks, the crew at “One coin at a time” were temporarily derailed by some heavy snow that blanketed the area, causing all hands to suspend their search, not that we expected to find and any money out there anyway. We’ll be back at it tomorrow as the weather warms up and the melting begins.

Pounding The Pavement!

Today we found 17 cents in change and 15 bottles and cans.

On the eve of a major snowstorm, I’m running on empty. I just completed a string of 9 straight days of runs on the roads and the body is saying it’s time for a rest. It’s not like haven’t done this before, it’s just that my fitness level isn’t at a high level at this moment. When I was on the road race circuit, it was no big deal running 30, 40, or 50 days in a row with an average of 50-55 miles a week. Sadly, I have a ways to go, but I am starting to turn the corner. A day off will be just what the doctor ordered.

Money Report – In the wake of a couple huge money-finding days, things returned to a somewhat normal mode. I was solo on the evening with Lexi when we cashed in with 14 cents at the car wash (1 dime and 4 pennies). The other 3 cents were found at Hannaford’s where I stopped in for a few grocery items. All three pennies were recovered from the parking lot on the ground.

Sidebar – Promotional Cap News – As many of you know, I’ve been involved in many different cap redemption promotions. Besides the on-going coke rewards and power aid games, there are a few new entrants in the field. Pepsi is currently running its car a day giveaway (free ride) promotion, which runs until 4/30. Then, we have the Twister, Sprite and Dr. Pepper promotions as well. There’s lots of different prizes that can be won or redeemed so keep a lookout for those caps!
