Battling The Cold!
Today we found 50 cents in change and 24 bottles and cans.
In was another chilly day here in the northeast. Temps barely made it to 30 degrees and there was a light wind that went right through you, though it was sunny.
Story of the day - While out on my run this afternoon, I noticed a group of high school boys out running some miles. There were strung out pretty good along the run’s intended route and it was obvious, from my running view, that these guys weren’t on the track team. As I round the corner from Dorsey heading on to Riverbank, I’m actually heading in the same direction. Ahead of me I can see two kids running side by side. Both of them are wearing shorts, if you can believe it, and one is wearing a t-shirt. I’m thinking to myself, what the hell are these guys doing? So I pull up to them and say to the kid in the shorts and t-shirt “Man, you must be freezing” to which he replies, “Yes, I am”. I told him it’s a bad idea to being running like that and told him to invest in some winter running gear (even cotton sweatpants and sweatshirt). What really bothers me though, besides the fact that the kid could catch pneumonia, was that these kids were part of the wrestling team. Now I’ve done some coaching in the past and I know plenty of people who are currently coaching in various sports. And to think that any coach would knowingly let any kid run in shorts and a t-shirt in this weather, shouldn’t be coaching. They are putting that kid in direct danger, namely hypothermia and frostbite for starters, not to mention the already discussed possibility of pneumonia. The worst part about was that they still over a mile to go just to get back to the school. I was not impressed.
Money talk – Michele brought home our first finds of the day, 16 cents (1 dime, 1 nickel and 1 penny) that she found throughout the school. Then, on her run, she found another 11 cents on Allen Street (1 dime and 1 penny). The evening walk made up the rest of the finds. We found 20 cents at the car wash (2 dimes). Both coins were on the ground in the self-serve bays. Next, we picked up 2 cents at Miller Ford in the parking lot. The last penny was found at the high school in one of the student parking lots.
Sidebar – I forgot add a picture of the Butterfly in last night’s entry so I decided to insert it here.
