Two More Wins...

Red Sox Report – Friday and Saturday spelled two more victories for the Red Sox. On Friday, Dice-K got his 16th win with an 8-0 shutout of the White Sox. Dustin Pedroia had 4 hit from the cleanup slot and Jason Bay knocked in 3 runs with a clutch double.

On Saturday, the sox handed the ball to triple-A prospect Michael Bowden. Though he wasn’t spectacular in his first start. He did keep the White Sox hitters off balance in his five-inning stint. Once again it was Dustin Pedroia leading the attack with 4 more hits. Here’s a guy who has been told all his life that he’s too small, he’s not strong enough, he’ll never get to that next level. But all he does is keep proving people wrong. The man leads the league in batting average, multiple hit games and hits. He also leads the league in runs scored, tied for 2nd with 44 doubles, and ranks in the top 20 for both on base percentage and slugging percentage. If that’s not enough, he’s also an outstanding defensive player with a gritty, never give up attitude. He’s the poster boy for the old time throwback player and he just simply gets the job accomplished. One word, MVP!

Nice Little Knife

Check out this handy little Kobalt box knife we came across the other day. I can see a multitude of uses for this tool as time goes on and I’m sure who ever lost it is probably not too happy. Did I say I liked the color?

Money Update – The past couple of days yielded another 1.95 for the pot. Friday contributed a 93-cent effort and then on Saturday we followed it up with a 1.02. No real interesting coin finds to speak of but we keep hoping.

Bottle Talk – I know I haven’t been talking about the bottle and can arena in a while; however, we’ve been scooping them up by the bag full. It has been, and continues to be the top money earner in each fiscal year. In 2007 that was roughly 1,200 dollars.

Escape From New York…

Red Sox Roundup – While a series sweep for the Sox was oh so close, as a fan or a player you have to be satisfied with the outcome of the series, and the for that matter the road trip as a whole. Our beloved team managed to win all three series and return to Boston with a 6-3 record. Yes, it was tough loss in the final game of the Yankees series, but Boston will now enjoy 20 of the last 29 games it plays at home. A place where they are playing a sizzling .704 winning pct and only bested by Tampa Bay’s .720 clip.

As for the competition, Minnesota currently 2 ½ games back, and is in the midst of 14-road swing with 6 games still remaining, and 16 of it’s final 28 on the road. It’s not a cupcake schedule either, running into the likes of Tampa Bay, Chicago and Cleveland, a team that is currently on 10-game winning streak.

The Yankees, who are currently 6 games back of the sox, have a much taller hill to climb. 16 of their final 29 are on the road. For Yankee teams of the past that might have not been a big hurdle, however it’s the strength of schedule that really is the problem for the bombers. For example, tonight they start with Toronto and Roy Halladay, then they’ll also see Brunett as well. After that it’s on the road for 10 games against division leading Tampa Bay and Los Angeles with Detroit and Seattle sprinkled in before coming home to see Tampa Bay and Chicago waiting for them. Even the last six, all on the road will be in the hostile environments of Toronto and Boston. It doesn’t take a mathematician to figure out those odds, and they are very, very bad.

And finally there’s Tampa Bay. Here’s a team that has overachieved at every turn, has overcome adversity at every corner and has played with guts, desire, and pride of a true champion. Here’s where the water gets murky for the frontrunner though. 17 of it’s final 30 will be on the road. As I noted earlier with the Yanks and Minnesota, both teams are in for some tough sledding. However, Tampa Bay might have the highest hill to climb of all. Not only do they see Boston 6 times, they’ll see New York for 6 games, Minnesota for 4 games, and Toronto for 3. Plus, if the race for the division becomes tight in the last week, Tampa will have to earn it’s first division title on the road as the final 8 games will come against division foe Baltimore and then to Detroit.

It should be interesting.

Money Update – The last couple of days have been a boon to the gang here at “One Coin At A Time. In total we came up with an amazing 4.26 in bills and coin. The highlight of the two endeavors was this dollar bill. It was found on the Mousam Trail, a local urban path that runs several miles through Springvale and Sanford. It must have been covered for a while as it has experienced some deterioration, however, all of the serial number information is intact. We also scored one wheat penny in hoard of coins. It was a 1950 S.

Tool Time!

Lately we’ve been coming across a good little bounty of hand tools. Pictured here is a snapshot of our most recent finds which include a mini flowered pattern hammer, a stubby Phillips screwdriver and a handy pair of channel locks. Needless to say, we’ve been filling up the toolbox nicely.

Red Sox Report – Stated by many Yankee players as pivotal, the bombers were looking for a sweep, and, at the very worst, taking 2 of 3 in this circle-the-wagons series between the two longtime A.L. East rivals. Well, my friends chock one up for the Red Sox with a 7-3 win. The score, however, doesn’t indicate just how close this game was, or how the Yankees squandered several opportunities to make this game much closer. You need only look at the bombers cleanup hitter, Alex Rodriguez, to get an idea of the lack of clutch hitting in crucial spots that once again contributed to the Yankees downfall. He could hardly take the complete blame though as Andy Pettitte, once the epitome of the word “Big Game Pitcher”, failed to make it through the fifth, giving up 6 earned runs.

From a Red Sox perspective, this series opener win assures them of winning road trip, and more importantly, inches them a game closer to Rays who lost at home to Roy Halladay and the Blue Jays.

Money Talk – The coin gods were generous to us over the past couple of days. Monday, we snagged a total of 16 cents, followed by a 1.22 effort on Tuesday. There were no interesting coins of note, but, like everyone else, we continue add to our little nest egg.

Two Necklaces....

Checkout this stylish looking necklace we recently found, actually it was the first of two necklaces we found on corresponding days last week. This one, in our opinion, was the sharpest of the two with a combination of smaller pearl and larger ruby beads set against what appears to be a simple metal chain. There is a maker’s mark of a crown near the clasp, but nothing else to suggest that’s it more than your run-of-the-mill jewelry. Nevertheless, it’s a nice find.

Another Series Win – So far, the news has been good for Red Sox fans on this current nine-game road trip. While the Bosox got spanked on Saturday to the tune of 11-0, Sunday was a different story thanks in part to a Coco Crisp game tying homerun. That’s right, you heard me folks, good ole coco game to the rescue with a dinger, and then Jed Lowrie, another guy who has come up big for Boston, capped things off with the game winner in the 11th inning. Needless to say, this was a huge win for the sox, both from a confidence level and from a momentum standpoint. Winning the first two series gives them fuel going into New York for their showdown series, which begins on Tuesday. A Series win against the Yankees and the sox have gone a long way securing a playoff spot. A series sweep would effectively eliminate the Yankees, and a series loss or sweep and things get really interesting, both for the division and the wild card. Time will certainly tell the tale of this story.

Money Report – We had some luck with our coin finding ventures over the weekend. Saturday netted us a total of 44 cents, while Sunday added another 17 cents to the pot. The only coin of interest was a 1944 wheat penny. I guess that’s not too bad, huh?

O’ Captain, My Captain!

Sox Talk – It appears that someone has woken Jason Varitek from his long season slumber. The captain has become as wide-eyed as a kid in a candy store at the thought of hitting a baseball. So much so that opposing pitchers are starting to take notice. Just ask Shaun Marcum what his take was while dodging bullets from the Red Sox catcher and captain. Varitek when 2-3 with a homerun, his third in as many games while his teammates joined the fun for a convincing 8-4 victory and an impressive 3-1 start on the road. His bat will be vitally important now with the absences of Mike Lowell and J.D. Drew, though neither one is expected to miss a prolonged period of time.

Name Game – okay, this was an item I stumbled across some months ago. It has that telltale spiral or swirl appearance to it but I’m really not sure what it is. The interesting or unique part is that it’s made from 100 percent Popsicle sticks. I suppose it could be used as a basket in its simplest form, but perhaps it’s just for decorative purposes. Nevertheless, it does have that certain eye appeal so I’d be interested on others opinions.

Money Report – We were able to corral a total of 38 cents over the past two days. The first twelve of it coming on Thursday followed up by a 26-cent effort on Friday. There were no coins of interest however, but, like everyone else, it continually adds to our total.

A Little More Silver…

Money Talk – Well, the last two days have provided us here at One Coin at a Time with a whopping 6.66. Most of the total came from an area car wash with a few coins sprinkled in from other areas. However, the best find came via the local Hannaford’s supermarket where I spotted a dime on the floor. When picking it up it appeared to that silver look to it and sure enough, I was right. It was a 1947, and when showing it to gentleman just in front of me he said, “where did you find that?” I said, “on the floor”. And then he said, “You better buy a Power Ball ticket”, and I said, “I already have”. Unfortunately, my good luck with the lottery did not continue.

Sox Roundup – There was some good news in Red Sox land with regard to the just completed Baltimore series. The sox were able to take two of three on the road. The bad news is that Clay Buchholz was unimpressive once again, and because it, he has been sent down, not to triple-A, where I expected him to go, but to double-A. The question now is, who replaces him? Tim Wakefield is getting close, but is he close enough? Then there is the uncertainty of Josh Beckett, who has been experiencing tingling in two of his fingers on his throwing hand. While Tito Francona has downplayed the whole thing, one has to wonder if Beckett’s health is in order. Certainly this and Buchholz replacement questions will answered in the next few days.

The Bay State Basher…

Red Sox Talk – Since my last post, the sox have posted a 1 and 2 record with two consecutive losses coming at the hands of Toronto. It seems that old friend Roy Hallady and company have decidedly picked up the pace and I think it’s no coincidence that their surge has come under the watchful eyes of Cito Gaston. Folks, this guy can manage and the Jays will certainly have something to say about who wins the A.L. East, that’s for sure.

Last nights win over the Orioles was the first of a nine game road swing, which will take the sox through Toronto (ugh), and New York. Jason Bay came up big with 2 homeruns and 4 runs batted in, and this is where I get into the discussion about Manny Ramirez. Let me first say that Ramirez is arguably one of the all-time greatest right-handed power hitters in the history of the game. He hits for average and for power. He’s proven time and time again that when the game is on the line and Manny’s at the plate, it’s almost a certainty that he’ll come up big. No doubt, he’ll be a first ballot hall-of-famer.

Now here’s the bad news. Unfortunately, Manny Ramirez became a selfish player somewhere along the way. Here’s a guy that was afforded every luxury by the Boston organization. They put up with his constant Manny being Manny episodes, which included things like showing up for spring training late and several occurrences where lack of hustle reared its ugly head. Then there were the multiple fathom injuries and child-like tantrums that made him seem more like a twelve-year old then a man in his thirties. He’s a guy who never wanted to lead, never played through the bumps and bruises like many of his teammates and rarely played with the heart and motivation of a lion on a game-by-game basis. He shunned the media, and the fans, the ones who truly adored the man and worshiped the ground he walked on. He claimed he couldn’t go anywhere without being bothered though; yet he said he loved the Boston fans.

Yes, this is the real Manny, the one who currently makes 20 million dollars a year and is at the end of an 8-year, 160 million-dollar contract. The same guy who has became obsessed with an organization picking up his option, and when it didn’t happen he took things into his hands. First he pushes down traveling secretary Jack McCormick, a man nearly twice his age because he couldn’t provide him with an unreasonable amount of tickets. Then he cat calls management saying they aren’t being straightforward and were deceiving him? Huh? And finally, as a last defiant stand, he decides his knee is hurting and can’t play; yet he when asked which knee was giving him a problem he couldn’t remember? Oh yeah, this guy’s gone way over the edge.

The finality of it all was that Manny simply gave the Red Sox no choice but to trade him. Even his own teammates when counseled by GM Theo Epstien said he had to go. So, that’s leads me back to Jason Bay. Here’s a guy who is everything that’s Manny’s not. A guy that wants to play every day; he hustles out every ground ball. He’s defensively sound as an outfielder and has a better than average arm along with a fair number of assists. He hits with power, and for a decent average and has already delivered several clutch hits. He’s approachable, he’s sincere, and he’s grateful for the chance to play in a meaningful game every single day. Hell, the guy can even steal you a base. Granted his power numbers may not be Manny’s, but he’s in his prime (29), and is hitting in a lineup loaded with good hitters (unlike Pittsburgh) so he doesn’t need to put up those monster numbers year in year out. The scary thing though is that he just may come close. So I say, so long Manny Ramirez and welcome aboard Jason Bay.

Money Update – Well, the coins have been plentiful lately pulling in a total of 2.77 in coin. Our finds came from the usual places of which I’ve mentioned many times before. We did have one exciting find though, 1943 Liberty Half Dollar! Yes, it’s true, I could hardly believe it myself, but there it was resting in the gravel of popular coin finding spot. I had found several pennies and one nickel at this location before stumbling on the half dollar, but this was by far the best gem of the day.

The Return...

Hello to all after a long hiatus. It’s been some time since I posted to this blog and a lot has happened in that time period. A little more than a year has come and gone, and with it, many different and interesting finds have come our way. In my coming entries, I’ll be recapping some of those finds along with anything new that we might happen to come across. With regard to our money finding ventures, 2007 was a banner year; netting us a total of 280.03 for the year, and 2008 has been nearly as good. It’s hard to believe that we could find that much money on the streets of our little town, but it’s true. As for our bottle and can endeavors, they just keep coming, and coming, and coming. Every day we find a fair number of them and they add up pretty quickly.

Red Sox Talk – 2007 was a very rewarding year for myself and for all of Red Sox nation. With a second World Series securely tucked away, the Beantown nine look to defend the title in 2008. Gone is Manny Ramirez (more to come on this), Injured is Curt Schilling, and finally back in the swing of things is David Ortiz. Yes, the supporting cast is great, Youk, and Pedroia have been outstanding, Lowell and Drew have stepped up and Jed Lowrie, the latest new rookie for the sox and has been super clutch. Then there’s Dice K and Jon Lester, along with Ace Josh Beckett who finally seems to be regaining his 2007 form. In a nutshell, (not to sound to cliché) I’d say the sox and in good hands. It will be interesting to see how well the Rays and Yanks hold up, with the latter playing a brutal stretch of games on the road.

One Step Forward, One Step Back…

Today we found 36 cents in change and 28 bottles and cans.

Sox Report – After a good solid win on Thursday, the sox found a way to give up another. Julian Taravez wasn’t near himself on the mound and that put the Fenway nine back on their heels early. Still, the sox were in line to get the “W” until Kyle Snyder took the hill. Reed Johnson and Alex Rios came up big for the Jays, a game that was ultimately decided in the sixth after their back-to-back hits, and gave Toronto all the offense they would need. Dice-K takes the hill for the good guys in game 3.

Money Talk – Michele was able to pick up 4 cents during her morning walk with Lexi. First, she found 2 pennies on Mill Street, 1 cent on Barbara, and 1 cent on Pleasant. The evening walk produced 32 cents (3 dimes, 2 pennies). The first 22 of it came via the car wash. The coins were scattered in and around the vacuum areas. The final dime was found on the ground in the Nasson College parking lot.

A Win Out Of The Break!

Today we found 19 cents in change and 53 bottles and cans.

Sox Recap - After limping into the All-Star break losers of 3 in a row, the Sox broke out the lumber against Toronto ace Roy Halladay. Manny Ramirez or the “ManRam” along with David Ortiz provided much of the pop, while Tim Wakefield quietly notched his 10th victory. Let’s hope for another win tomorrow.

Sidebar – Curt Schilling is scheduled to throw on the Friday. Just a little more good news for Red Sox nation!

Money Talk – Michele scored 3 cents on her walk this morning. The first came via Mill Street while the third was found on Pleasant. The evening walk contributed 16 more cents to our total. At the car wash he snagged a single penny, we also found a nickel at Luigi’s and finally a dime near the courthouse. That place has been turning out the coins lately.

Today we found 41 cents in change and 57 bottles and cans.

Now here’s something you don’t see every day. It’s a fully operational bingo machine complete with cards and chips. This was yet another one of our car wash finds and now we can liven up that family gathering, or perhaps just break it out when friends stop by. There’s nothing like a little B-I-N-G-O to get that heart pumping action going!

Money Update – Michele came up with 12 cents on her morning walk. She found a dime on Mill, 1 penny on Allen and 1 penny on Mousam. In the early afternoon we stopped at a few stores for some abbreviated shopping. At Mardens we found 15 cents (1 dime, 1 nickel). Both coins were near the checkout areas. At Walmart we picked up another 3 pennies in the parking lot, and finally, at Shaws, we recovered a single penny on our way out to the car.

The evening walk added 6 more cents to the total. At the car wash we found 2 cents near the vacuum areas. Then we found 3 pennies at the skateboard park, and finished up the scoring with 1 penny at Luigi’s.

Tigger!

Today we found 69 cents in change and 66 bottles and cans.

Well looky here, check out this good-looking Tigger puppet doll we found at the car wash today. Our dog Lexi really loves these kinds of things because she thinks it a toy for her. Not this time little girl, old Tigger here is headed for the next year’s yard sale pile.

Money Report – On Michele’s early morning walk with Lexi, she came found a single dime. She came across the coin on Mill Street. A little while later we headed out on a bike ride. During that time we snagged another 44 cents (2 dimes, 3 nickels and 9 pennies). We found 4 pennies at the Depot, a nickel at Sweet Creations, a Nickel at Key Bank, a nickel at the Hair Salon, 15 cents at Luigi’s and a dime in front of the courthouse. The evening walk netted us another 15 cents. First we found 4 pennies at the car wash, then 1 penny at the skateboard park and finally, a dime in front of the courthouse again.

Money Talk – Michele did the majority of the coin finding today on her walk. She found a total of 7 cents (all pennies). She found 2 cents on Sherburne, 1 on Lucerne, 1 penny in the Rite Aid parking lot, 2 cents on Main Street and 1 penny on Mill.

The evening walk only netted us a nickel at the car wash. However, we did find a couple of cars, one of them from the movie, cars, and a pair of sunglasses. All the items will head to the yard sale pile.

Swept In Tiger Town….

Today we found 32 cents in change and 15 bottles and cans.

Sox Talk – If there was ever a team looking for the All-Star break, it has to be the Red Sox. Daisuke Matsuzaka, who had been on a nice streak of wins, was mauled in Detroit by the hungry Tigers, and the sox offense, though they scored more runs, still looked a little lifeless. From my perspective, it looked as though Matsuzaka was more fatigued than anything else. He had previously gone deep in several starts and it must have just caught up with him. The one positive note from all this is that we still have a comfortable 10 lead on the Yankees going into the break so there won’t be any alarm button pushing going on.

Money Update – Michele was able to score a dime on her this morning with Lexi. She found the little rascal on Pleasant Street. In the evening we found came up with another 22 cents. First we snagged 11 cents at the skateboard park (1 dime, 1 penny), then added 11 cents at the car wash (1 dime, 1 penny) to round out the scoring.

Extra Inning Nightmare….

Today we found 2.86 in change and 66 bottles and cans.

The Red Sox found winning tough once again, this time losing a heartbreaker to the Tigers in 13 innings, 3-2. The pitching did all they could, but the bats failed to respond. Ivan Rodriguez muscled one just past the outstretched glove of Coco Crisp to secure the victory for Detroit. I’m hoping that we can at least salvage the final game before the break. It would be nice to get a victory.

Money Report – Michele had good luck on her morning walk with Lexi finding a total of 57 cents (2 quarters, 1 nickel, and 2 pennies). The first 32 to it came on Allen Street, and then she found quarter near Metrocast near the corner of Railroad Avenue and Pleasant Street. A little later we needed to run a couple of errands. During those stops we found a penny at the Dunkin Donuts and a penny at Hannafords.

The rest of the came on our usual evening walk. First, at the car wash, we came across a real nice stash of coin, 2.13 in all (4 quarters, 8 dimes, 2 nickels and 23 pennies). Most of the coins were in a small pile on top of a vacuum island. There were, however, several coins strewn about on the ground. Next, we found a single penny at the Cumberland Farms, followed by 3 pennies at the Depot and a dime at the skateboard to complete the total.

Motown Mauling…

Today we found 1.75 in change and 36 bottles and cans.

Sox Talk - Coming off a 3-game sweep of the Devil Rays should have been a shot of adrenaline for the sox, instead, they came in Detroit barely awake. Starter Julian Tavarez was good through the first innings, but then the wall caved in as the Tigers exploded for 3 in the fourth and 5 in the fifth. Meanwhile, Detroit starter Andrew Miller found a way to befuddle the sox through 7 and bullpen mopped up for an easy 9-2. Hopefully we can turn things around tomorrow night.

Money Report – Michele started things off with a single penny find during walk which she found on Mill Street. A little later, we decided to head for a ride on the mountain bikes. During the trek we found another 49 cents (1 quarter, 2 dimes and 4 pennies). We snagged a quarter in the return slot of a newsstand at the post office, then scooped up 24 cents at the 7-11.

The rest of the finds came via the evening walk. First, we found a penny at Cumberland Farms, then 7 cents on Main Street (1 nickel, 2 pennies). The big came at the car wash where we found 1.30 in change (4 quarters, 2 dimes, and 10 pennies). All of the coins were found near the vacuum areas and the vacuum machines themselves.

For the sox it was their 4th win in a row, and for Josh Beckett, another of the Boston all-stars headed to San Francisco, it was his twelfth win against only 2 losses. Offensively, the bats came alive rapping out 21 hits led by Mike Lowell’s 5-6 night. David Oritz also collected 3 hits while Coco Crisp hit his 5th home run, a grand slam that really opened things up early. Now it’s off to Detroit for a 3 games and then off for the all-star break.

Money Report – Michele came up with silver on her morning walk. She found the dime on Mill Street, which has really been a haven lately due to the Mill Street store once again being open. In the afternoon I needed to run to the bank to make a deposit, and while I was there I found 8 cents on the floor in the lobby (1 nickel and 3 pennies). We also went for a run in the afternoon and found two more cents. This time we found a penny near the Mill Street store and a penny on Pleasant Street (cash corner). The evening walk contributed 52 cents (2 quarters and 2 pennies). First, we found 27 cents at the car wash, and then a quarter at Springvale Hardware.

Godzilla…And His Friend The Horse.

Today we found 1.76 in change and 80 bottles and cans.

Having not seen any new trailers for the monster great, Godzilla, I was beginning to wonder what had become of him. Well folks, he’s alive and well. I found him down at the car wash with his old friend the horse taking in a little bit of the sunny weather. It’s funny, though, from watching his movies I thought he’d be much taller. That’s Hollywood for you.

Money Report – The coin finding couldn’t have been better on this sunny, but slightly humid day. Michele got things going with 3 cents on her walk. She corralled 2 pennies on Allen and 1 cent on Pleasant. We also headed out for a ride on the mountain bikes around noon where we were rewarded with 26 cents for our efforts (1 quarter, 1 penny). We found a quarter the car wash and a penny at the skateboard park.

The evening walk netted us an additional 1.07 (4 quarters, 1 nickel, and 2 pennies) We found the 4 quarters on one of the vacuum islands, and then 2 pennies on Main. We also added a nickel from the high school and a pair of reading glasses (1.75) to round things out.

Sox Talk – Well, we’re now 2 for 2 against the Devil Rays with a 7-5 victory. Tim Wakefield got the “W” and is now 9-8 for the season, not too bad for a guy who’s supposed to be the number four starter. As for the offense, that was led by All-Star Mike Lowell’s two run smash. Then only negative was the performance by Javier Lopez, who got cuffed around in relief of Wakefield. Still, he has been pitching well so I guess I can let that one slide. We go for the possible sweep tomorrow.

Oh There You Are 007….

Today we found 58 cents in change and 66 bottles and cans.

I know I’ve said this before, but sometimes you just never know what you’re going to come across during walk. Case in point, while at the car wash today we found a bag full of James Bond VHS tapes, 11 to be exact. All of them are in their original boxes/holders, and all of them are in perfect working condition. Now I know DVD’s are in, but, after many people still have vcr’s as I witnessed by the amount vhs tapes that sold at neighboring yard sales. Needless to say, these will be added to the yard sale items.

Money Report – Michele found 1 penny during her walk this morning. She picked up the coin on Mill Street. A little while after that she went out for her run and found 2 more pennies, again on Mill Street. The evening walk added another 54 cents (1 quarter, 2 dimes, 1 nickel, and 4 pennies). First, we found 20 cents at the car wash, then another 7 cents at the 7-11. On the corner of Main and Oak we snagged a quarter and at the skateboard park we picked up 2 pennies. The final coin, a penny, was found on the ground at number one pond where went to watch the town’s fireworks display.

Sox Talk – We had an old fashioned pitchers duel at the Fenway tonight. Daisuke Matsuzaka went up against Tampa nemesis Scott Kazmir. The tables finally turned for the sox though as they broke the ice with 3 runs in the second, two of which came on a clutch hit from Julio Lugo. Yes, you heard me right, Julio Lugo broke out of his 0-33 drought with single up the middle, one of his two hits on the night. That proved to be more than enough for the K-Man as he improved his record to 10-5. It sure is nice to see the devil rays in town!

Today we found 42 cents in change and 25 bottles and cans.

Money Talk – Michele started things off positively with 29 cents on the morning walk (1 quarter, 4 pennies). She found a quarter and a penny on Allen, then 2 cents on Mill and 1 on Lucerne. The evening trek added the final 13 cents to our total. We found 2 nickels at the car wash, 1 penny at the Cumberland on Main Street and 2 cents at the skateboard park. We also found Pfaltzgraff plate, which we’ll be adding to the yard sale items.

Sox Update – On the heels of two straight losses, the Red Sox finally righted the ship, thanks in big part to the pitching from Kason Gabbard, and the clutch hitting from Eric Hinske. Gabbard went 5 and 2/3 holding the Rangers to three runs while Hinske, playing in back to back games came up with a 3-run triple to open things up in what had been a close game. From the sox standpoint, this was good win as they got contributions from players they’ll be counting on down the stretch. That being said, I’d like to see the boys get on hot streak and run off 5 or 6 wins-in-a-row.

Money Report – July started off with bang for us here with a better than average day of coin finding. Michele scored 9 cents on her morning walk with Lexi. She snagged a nickel and penny on Pleasant and 2 cents on Main. We really cleaned up on the evening walk with 1.46 (4 quarters, 2 dimes, 2 nickels and 14 pennies). The majority of the coins were found at the car wash, most of which were lying on one of the vacuum islands. A few coins were spread out on the ground as well. We also picked up a dime on Main Street.
In addition to the coins, we came across a few oddball items that we’ll be adding to the pile for next year’s yard sale. One item from the movie cars (we sold the 4 we already had) two other cars and a rubber ball with the 4th of July motif.
Sox Talk – While Julian Tavarez pitched well, allowing only 2 runs in 5 and 2/3 innings, It was not good enough as Cameron Loe and the Rangers bullpen shutdown the Boston bats once again 2-1. Boston did have their chances to score more runs (11 lob) but aren’t doing the job with men in scoring position. I know; this is beginning to sound like a broken record. The real fact is, we should be winning against teams like this, but so far we’re sitting at a 1-2 mark. Let’s crank up the offense and get this engine running!

The First Annual “One Coin At A Time” Yard Sale!

As some of you might already know, we here at “One Coin At A Time” have been setting things aside that we’ve come across over the last year or so in preparation for selling those said items at a yard sale. Well folks, today was the day, although we had planned it a couple of days ago.

Even before we had set things up, people were stopping in droves. Being on a busy main road is good for traffic and we also had two other yard sales going on just down from us so it was a buyer’s paradise. From 7.45 am until 2 pm the buyers kept coming, and when it was all over, we had made over 150 in profits with at least 50 to 60 percent coming from found items. To say that the yard sale was a success would be an understatement. What I was more amazed with was the amount of “stuff” we sold and what we were able to get for it. Now we need to find more items for next year’s sale!

Money Report – Michele was out extremely early on her morning walk Lexi. While on her trek she found a total of 2 cents for her troubles. The first penny was found on Mill Street and the second on Main.

During the evening walk we added another 35 cents (1 dime, 3 nickels, and 10 pennies). As we headed out down Main Street we found a nickel and a penny. At the car wash we netted 27 cents, all of which was found scattered on the ground around the vacuum areas. At the 7-11 we found a penny in the parking lot, and we added a penny that found at the Cumberland Farms.

Sox Talk – On paper, this one looked like a sure win. Josh Beckett was on the bump with an 11-1 record against Robinson Tejeda who had been having his troubles. I guess that’s why they play these games though, as the Rangers, after being down 4-0, came back against Beckett and tagged him with his second loss of the year, 5-4. Boston did have their chances to score more runs off him, but lately, they just haven’t been finding that clutch hit they’re looking for. That said, the Rangers bullpen pitched exceptionally well, as did the sox pen. Here’s hoping for a bounce-back win tomorrow.

Sox Report – Tim Wakefield got the Red Sox home stand off to successful start with a well-pitched 2-1 victory. Once again though the sox bats failed to do any real damage; this time against Jeremy Wright who came in with an era well over six. I’ll take it though, as we needed this win.

Money Talk – There wasn’t too money loot on the streets today. Michele got skunked on her morning walk with Lexi. However, we did head out on the mountain bikes where we managed to pick up 10 cents, all pennies. The coins were found in a number of places but for the sake of time I’ll skip at this time. The evening walk added 16 cents to the total (3 nickels, and 1 penny). All of the finds came via the car wash mostly around the vacuum areas.

Well there’s no baseball to talk about today as the sox are back at home after having their hat handed to them by the Mariners. With only 10 games remaining before the all-star break, I really hope the boys of Beantown find a way to accumulate a decent amount of wins and close on the first half of the 2007 season strong.

Money Talk – Michele found single penny during morning walk with Lexi. The penny was found on Harris Street. We also found time in our busy schedule to fit in some grocery shopping. On the way back we stopped at a no-name car wash and picked up a penny.

The rest of the total was found on the evening walk. The first 48 cents (2 nickels, and 38 pennies) was found at the car wash. The majority of change was on one of the islands, however, we did find a nickel atop one of the change returns in a self-serve bay, and a few pennies scattered about near the various vacuum stations. We also found a penny on Main Street to complete the total.

Sox Talk – After what had been a successful road trip, turned out to be a disappointment as sox limped out of Seattle with their third consecutive loss 2-1. Sure, there were some positive points, one in particular was dice-k and his brilliant performance, but the bats were cold once again and failed to provide him with any real run support. And then there’s Joel Pineiro who coughed up a lead and ultimately took the loss. The team as a whole though looked tired and perhaps a day off and some home cooking will be just what the doctor ordered.

Money Report – Michele recovered a penny on her morning walk with Lexi. The said coin was found Pleasant Street. On her run a little bit later she also found a penny, this time on Bridge Street. The evening walk contributed 60 cents to the total (1 quarter, 2 dimes and 3 nickels). All of the coins were found at the car wash. The quarter on the ground near the vacuum areas and the dimes and nickels from a coin return at one of the soda machines.

Sox Report – While Kason Gabbard pitched well in his debut outing for the sox, this time he was not very good. In fact, he basically unraveled in the first inning allowing only one hit, but walking four men and hitting another which ultimately led to 3 runs and got the Mariners off and running. Manny Delcarmen and Javier Lopez gave up another 4 runs combined and when the crying was over the sox came up on the short end of an 8-7 loss. I’d like to give credit to the Seattle hitters, though, as they showed resilience after the sox came back twice to tie the score. Dice-k heads to the hill this afternoon in what looks to be a salvage win against Ryan Feierbend who sports a 1-2 record and an era over 8.

Money Talk – I think the recent hot streak we’re in (2nd day of 90 plus) has affected our coin totals. Michele did have some luck on her morning walk with Lexi coming through with 12 cents. She found a dime and a penny at the skateboard park and a penny at the high school. A little later she went out for her run and found a penny on Bridge Street.

The evening walk added another 41 cents to our total (1 quarter, 2 nickel, and 6 pennies). First, at the car wash we found a total of 33 cents. Most of the coins were found around the vacuum areas, but the quarter was found in a return slot and the nickel in the self-serve bay. We also found a nickel and two pennies on Riverbank and a penny in the rite aid parking lot.

Sox Update – Coming off two successful road series I was hopeful that the sox might start this one off the same way. However, it was not to be as Seattle, with the help of well-placed hits early, took game one 9-4. To say that the Red Sox had multiple chances to win the game would be an understatement. They kept finding ways to run themselves out of the innings though, and with the less than spectacular start by Julian Tavarez, and later Mike Timlin, the Mariners had all the runs they needed. Kason Gabbard goes tomorrow night for the good guys against Felix Hernandez.

Money Report – The first found coins of the day came via an afternoon bike ride. First at the 7-11 I picked up 3 pennies by the phone booths and then a penny on River Road at the entrance to the YMCA. I also found a penny at cigarette city and beverage center (a variety store) followed by a quarter on Spruce, another penny on River and a nickel at the depot to arrive at a total of 36 cents.

On the evening walk we found another 35 cents (1 quarter, 10 pennies). The first nine cents came via the car wash. All of the coins we in and around the vacuum areas, and then, at the skateboard park, we recovered quarter and a penny near the benches.

Two Aces....

Today we found 1.28 in change and 97 bottles and cans.

Sox Talk – This one had all the hype a baseball fan could ask for as 9-1 Jake Peavy went up against 10-1 Josh Beckett. Things went according to plan early as both pitchers shut down their opponent through the first two innings. In the third however, the sox continued to make Peavy work with long at bats from several of the Red Sox players, and it finally paid off as they broke through for 3 runs, the last coming on a bloop single by Mike Lowell that scored David Oritz.

The Padres did strike back in the fifth where they pieced together a leadoff walk, a single by Geoff Blum and a pinch-hit double by Terrmel Sledge. Beckett regained his composure though, and put a stop to any further scoring, shutting down the Fathers with eight strong innings. Jonathan Papelbon was then summoned from the bullpen and pitched a scoreless ninth to give the sox the series victory and fourth win in six games on the current 9-game road swing. Boston now heads north for a three game series against the Mariners.
Money Update – Michele was the first to break the ice with a total of 6 cents she found on her morning walk. First she found a penny on Mill Street, and then she found a nickel in the parking lot just across from the library on Main Street.

A little later we decided to go out for breakfast so we headed to the Sunnyside Restaurant for some grub. As we headed out I spotted a dime on the floor and scooped it up. We also needed to stop by Mardens, and while there picked up a penny near the checkout isle.

In the afternoon we hit the roads on our mountain bikes. We expanded the search from our normal areas and we’re handsomely reward coming up with 94 cents (1 quarter, 5 dimes, 2 nickels and 9 pennies). The coins were found in a variety of areas and for the sake of time and space I’ll omit them here.

The final 17 cents came via the evening walk. First, we found a foreign coin, a 2 ngwee from Zambia. It’s the first one I’ve ever seen and an interesting find for sure. We also snagged a dime in the rite aid parking lot. At the car wash we picked up 5 pennies near the vacuum areas, followed by a penny in the 7-11 parking lot and 1 penny on Main.

Sox Update – The Padres evened things up tonight with a 6-1 win over the hometown nine. I wasn’t real impressed with San Diego starter Chris Young (7-3). I had seen him pitch with Texas and the sox knocked him around pretty well when he was there. This time, however, even with a fastball that barely touched 90, and was for the most part straight as an arrow, the sox’ hitters couldn’t take advantage. Combine that with the light hitting Kahlil Greene’s two-homerun game, and that, my friends is a recipe for disaster, as the 6-1 final score would play out. So now it’s all even and tomorrow’s game should be a doozy with 10-1 Josh Beckett going up against 9-1 Jake Peavy.

Money Report – Michele’s early morning walk only yielded one penny, which she found on Allen Street. The rest of the loot came via the even walk. The 42 cents (1 quarter, 2 dimes and 7 pennies) was found at the car wash. All of the coins were scattered in and around the vacuum areas on the ground and atop the islands.

Sox Talk – Well, I wouldn’t have scripted him starting out walking the first three batters he faced, but after the dust settled and Padres had only scored one run, Matsuzaka shut San Diego over 6 innings. Dice-k was masterful as he dominated the Padres, overmatching the hitters. The relief staff took over after that along with just enough timely hitting from his offense to preserve a 2-1 win for the sox. Getting the first win here was key and hopefully sets the tone for news in games two and three.

Money Report – Michele had some luck once again on her morning walk as she netted a total of 27 cents (1 quarter and 2 pennies). She picked up a 26 of it in the Depot parking lot and then scooped up a penny on Mill Street. On the evening walk we added a total of 58 cents to the coffers. First, we found a penny in the rite aid parking lot followed by 50 cents (3 dimes, 1 nickel and 15 pennies). We also added 5 pennies from the skateboard park and 1 penny at Springvale Hardware.

Of special note, we came across a couple of nice looking bowls, possibly Japanese, at the car wash on one of the islands.

Rescue Chopper!

Thursday was a day of many coins. Michele found 2 cents on her walk to start off the scoring. She found one penny on Main and one penny on Payne. A little while later I went out for a bike ride as I had to mail out a couple of packages at the post office. During my trek around town I came up with 61 cents (2 quarters, 1 dime, and 1 penny). I picked up the first 36 cents in the Junior High parking lot, then I found a pretty beat up quarter atop of the air machine at Cumberland Farms. I also come across a military type camouflaged kids hat with the words “Rescue Chopper” on it.

The evening walk added the final 39 cents to the total. We picked up a penny at the ssya field, 12 cents (1 nickel and 6 pennies) at the car wash, and 26 cents (2 dimes and 6 pennies) at the 7-11 on the ground in the parking lot.

Sox Update – The boys broke out the lumber tonight against journeyman Buddy Carlyle of the Braves. He found out pretty quickly, on the very first pitch in fact, that he wasn’t facing the Florida Marlins or Pittsburgh Pirates. J.D. Drew’s leadoff homerun was only the start of Boston’s power surge as they added 4 additional dingers from the likes of Coco Crisp, David Oritz, Manny Ramirez and Eric Hinske. The win secured the series win for the sox and gets them off to a 2-1 start of nine-game road trip, all the while gaining ground on the fading Yankees. Now we get a day off before heading into San Diego, which no doubt will be a tough series.

Money Talk – Michele nailed down the first 26 cents of the day during her morning walk (1 quarter and 1 penny). She found the one penny on Mill, and then spotted a really soiled quarter in some mulch near the church on Pleasant Street. The evening only netted us 12 cents (1 dime and 2 pennies). On our way out we snagged a penny on Main Street. Then, at the 7-11 we found another penny in the parking lot. Finally, next to Key Bank, we picked up a dime that was on the sidewalk.

Sox Talk – The Red Sox evened up the series at one against the Braves with a nice performance from Josh Beckett, now 10-1. The game stayed tight until the middle innings when the sox broke through against Tim Hudson to secure the victory. This was big victory for the sox, especially in light of the apparent shoulder fatigue that Curt Schilling is suffering after his loss. We need to keep this train rolling!

Money Update – Coins were sparse on the side streets and byways of our little town. Michele has some luck on her morning walk coming up with 6 cents (1 nickel and 1 penny). She found both coins in the Depot parking lot. The evening walk added the remaining 18 cents to our total (1 dime and 8 pennies). In order, we found a single on Main Street, 16 cents at the car wash, and 1 penny at Sweet Creations.

Red Sox Update – No one said this was going to be easy, but from a personal standpoint I thought Curt Schilling would rebound from his last start. Instead he got cuffed around again by the free-swinging Braves in Atlanta last night 9-4. Schilling wasn’t the only sox pitcher the Braves took out their tomahawks on, it was pretty much right down the line. The one bright note though was Coco Crisp. He’s finally coming out of his funk as he had 4 hits including 2 homeruns. Hopefully Josh Beckett, who is also coming off a loss, will stop the bleeding and even the series at 1.

Money Report – Michele started the coin finding early with 2 cents on her morning walk. The first was found on Main Street, and then a penny near the haircutters across from the Library. The evening continued to be the mainstay contributing 61 cents (1 quarter, 2 dimes, 1 nickel, and 11 pennies). First we found an old penny on Main Street, then we snagged 13 cents at the High School in the parking lot areas. At the Car Wash we came up with a whopping 44 cents. The quarter was found in the dollar changer tray, and the remaining coins were found near the vacuum areas in the self-serve bays. The last two finds of the day were 3 cents at Springvale Hardware and 1 penny in the skateboard park.

Sox Talk – All the hype this weekend was on Barry Bonds, and finally, on Sunday he delivered with a homerun (number 748) that carried into the Giants bullpen. It was all in vain though as the sox completed the sweep of San Francisco. It was the middle of the order that did most of the damage today putting up nine runs and chasing Giant’s starter Matt Morris from the game after 4 innings. Now we head on the road for a tough nine game road swing with Atlanta, San Diego and Seattle. I hope the baseball gods smile favorably on us during this stretch.

Money Report – The coins were flowing on what was a beautiful Sunday. During Michele’s morning walk with Lexi she came up with 24 cents (1 dime, 1 nickel and 9 pennies). She snagged 12 cents at the skateboard park, 11 cents on Pleasant and 1 penny at the high school.

On the evening walk we added 56 more cents to the total (2 dimes, 2 nickels, and 26 pennies). The first 46 cents came from the car wash, all of which, with the exception of penny was scattered about in the various vacuum areas. One penny was recovered from the self-serve bays. Next we found 3 pennies on Water Street, then a penny at the skateboard park, 1 penny in the 7-11 parking lot and a nickel near the Library.

Sox Update – It was a real nail-biter today at Fenway today. Daisuke Matsuzaka matched up against Matt Cain in what turned out to be your old-fashioned pitchers duel. Cain only made one mistake, but that was to Manny Ramirez, and he took him deep over the monster to provide the games’ only run. Meanwhile, Matsuzaka nursed that one run lead through seven, turning it over to Hideki Okajima, and finally to Jonathan Papelbon in the ninth to preserve the victory. From a personal standpoint, I was never comfortable with the one run lead, and I felt we were lucky to slip by with the “W”. Message to the Red Sox batters: Get those bats going!

Money Report – Michele opened up the scoring with a total of 6 cents that she found during her morning walk. The first 2 pennies were found on Barbara, followed by 2 cents on Pleasant. She also picked up a penny in the Subway parking lot and 1 penny in the high school parking lot.

In the afternoon we headed to Portland to watch the Mustangs win the girls Class A State Title in Lacrosse. The ladies were down early 2-0 but came back to trail 4-3 in the first half. In the second half though, Massabesic was clearly the stronger team and wore down Brunswick and its dragons, going on to victory 9-7. We headed back to the high school to help them celebrate and while waiting, Michele and I took a walk around the grounds, coming up with 15 cents (2 nickels and 5 pennies).

The remaining 39 cents was found during the evening walk. At the car wash, we found 6 cents (all pennies), plus a nice kid’s baseball glove and a fully working handheld flashlight (see picture). We also picked up several New Hampshire tokens there as well. Next, heading up Main Street, we snagged a single penny. At Sweet Creations we found dime, followed by 20 cents at the skateboard park (2 nickels and 1 dime), a penny at the 7-11, and a penny in front of the Black Bear Café.

Red Sox Rap – It looks as though the light may have finally been turned on for this Red Sox team, one that had been slumping and still licking their wounds from the just completed Rockies thrashing by the Rockies. It did have the feel of past few games that the sox had been a part of, falling behind 2-0 in the first, but the bats and the pitching came alive and the home squad got a much needed win, regaining a game in the standings on the Yankees. Julian Tavarez pitched over and above the call of duty after a rocky first, and the top of the order carried the team to victory. Thank you J.D. Drew and Dustin Pedroia who had 8 hits combined with Pedroia a perfect 5 for 5. Let’s hope the rest of the offense lends a helping hand going forward.

Money Talk – Things started out well on this coin finding Friday. During my mountain bike run to the post office where I stopped to mail some packages, I found a dime near the counter. Then, on a short ride before heading back to the house, I found a penny on Grove Street. The evening walk added the remaining 28 cents to our total (1 quarter, 3 pennies). Most of the bounty came from the car wash where we picked up 27 cents. As usual, the coins were found in and around the vacuum areas. The other penny was found just off the sidewalk near the courthouse to complete the scoring.

Sox Talk – For the second night in a row the Red Sox seemed to be sleepwalking and the
Rockies took full advantage beating the sox and first time loser Josh Beckett 7-1. The sox
had their chances but never got the clutch hit they needed to get things going. Let’s hope the sox decide to wakeup some time soon, they’re too good a team to keep this up for very long.
Money Report – All of the coin finds were discovered via the evening walk. At the car wash found a total of 55 cents (1 quarter, 1 dime, 3 nickels and 5 pennies). All of the coins with the exception of one penny were found in and around the vacuum areas. The rouge penny was found in the one of the self-serve bays. The only other coin of the walk was dime that we found next to “Quarter Cuts”, a hair salon. On an interesting note, we found an Irving gift card on the ground. Now normally, I don’t expect there to be any balance, and in the past, those that we’ve found have had very little left on them if anything at all. This time, however, when checking the balance, we got the great news that there was still 10.00 dollars available. We have decided, however, not to count it toward our yearly total, though it will go to good use for us.

What was a close game for 5 innings turned into a blowout win for the Colorado Rockies. Curt Schilling was far from perfect though he did battle, giving up only 3 runs through the first four. It was a flat changeup in the fifth that spelled disaster as it led to 3-run homer and ultimately a rout of the sox. The offense did have several chances to score runs off 1-5 starter Josh Fogg, but the combination of double plays and the lack of a clutch hitting once again put the kibosh on what were promising situations. Let hope the bats break out tonight.

Other Baseball News – Well it seems that the Yankees are on fire with their eighth win in a row. Now it would be foolish to say that no one expected this team to go on a winning streak, however, I think it’s a bit premature to say that they’re back in the race just yet. As I’ve said before, this staff is old and the starting lineup with the exception of Cano and Cabrera, aren’t exactly spring chickens. It also doesn’t help matters any that they’re without Jason Giambi and boast a bullpen that well, just hasn’t done the job.

While I give the Yankees credit for the current streak they’re on, which by the way has them finally over the .500 mark, I see it as a short-lived, nice try experience, that when the fuel runs out, they’ll return to the former kind of play that had, and still does have Joe Torre and Brian Cashman on the hot seat.

Money Totals – Once again the evening walk bailed us out. I was solo again as Michele was helping out with Lacrosse Team, which by the way, became the Western Maine Champs! The vast amount of coin was found at the car wash where I picked up 76 cents (3 quarters, 1 penny). The three quarters were atop one of the coin ledges on a vacuum machine and the penny on the ground nearby. I also snagged a penny at the intersection of Oak and Main on the way down, and a penny on Main Street during the trek home.

A Win For Wake!

Sox Talk – Tim Wakefield had the old knuckler working as he mesmerized the visiting Colorado Rockies 2-1. As it turns out, he needed to be on his game because the Red Sox bats just haven’t been that potent of late. They always say good pitching will beat good hitting, I guess tonight was an example of that. Now if we can just win one of the next two, which should be doable, I’d be pretty happy, especially against their lineup which is loaded with .300 hitters.

Money Report – It was a real challenge in our coin finding ventures today. Michele scored the first penny on her morning walk with Lexi. She found the penny on Mill Street. On the evening walk we rounded up the final 10 cents (all pennies). We found one penny in the rite aid parking lot, one penny in the Cumberland Farms parking lot, 7 pennies at the car wash, and one penny in the Sweet Creations parking lot. Some days you get the bear; some days the bear gets you!

Today we found 2.05 in change and 30 bottles and cans.

We started the week off with a solid day of coin finding, though all of it came on the evening walk. Michele was busy with the fall sports signups at school, so Lexi and I headed out for the walk. We didn’t pocket any change until we hit the car wash. There we snagged a cache of coins adding up to 1.90, which was made up of dimes, nickels and pennies. Most of it was near one vacuum island, but we did scoop up a quarter in one of the self-serve bays. We also found a dime in the skateboard park and a nickel near the library to complete the total.

Cap Update – Our coke point total stands at 4496, currently. We do also have entries in for the Volvo, and the Samsung LCD TV so I’ve got my fingers crossed. In the current Pepsi promotion we’ve come up empty so far, but there’s still plenty of time left and caps seem to be plentiful. The Sunkist promotion has yielded 2 music downloads and 4 wallpapers so far. We’re hoping for one of the higher prizes, and in the Dr. Pepper promotion, we currently stand at a total of 12 points. These by far have been the toughest to come by.

Sox Update – First of all, I don’t like Randy Johnson. And second of all, I don’t like Randy Johnson when he’s on top of his game. I give the sox the credit though; they did work the counts and forced him out after six innings with a high pitch total. Unfortunately for them, they weren’t able to capitalize on the relievers, thus the diamondbacks came away with a 5-1 win. Still, after a tough start to the road-trip, they were able to win 3 of the last 4. A day off will be just what the doctor ordered, along with the Rockies and Giants, who come to Fenway starting tomorrow.

Money Report – Michele got us off to a nice start with 28 cents that she found on her morning with Lexi (1 quarter, 2 pennies). The first 27 cents was found at the skateboard park while the other penny was snagged on Sanford Boulevard.

During the evening walk we came up another 25 cents for the total (2 dimes and 5 pennies). First we hit the car wash and found 11 cents. After that we found 1 penny at the 7-11, a dime at Luigi’s, 1 penny right next to the courthouse and 1 penny a hannafords.

Sox Talk – After being down 3-0 to the Diamondbacks as late as the 7th inning, the sox, led by their captain, Jason Varitek came from behind with some clutch hitting and stellar relief work by the bullpen, all the way up to the closer. Jonathan Papelbon put the finishing touches on an impressive win and made sure the sox would take at least 2-3 from Arizona. Dice-k goes up against Randy Johnson in the series finale.

Money Report – Most of Saturday was spent driving due to the committal for Michele’s father, Vaughn, so we were on the road at 5:30 am for the 4-hour trip. It was good to see members of her family, but unfortunately, we really didn’t have much time to visit, as we needed to get back and take care of the animals. During the trip, however, we did find a total of 11 cents (1 dime and 1 penny). We found the penny up in Millinocket, at the McDonalds, where Michele made pit stop. The dime was found at an Irving station when we gassed up.

Most of the remaining 53 cents came during the evening walk. At the car wash we snagged two pennies by the vacuum areas. We also found 2 quarters at the ssya field, near the concession stand. The final penny was found at Hannafords, where we stopped to pick up a few things for supper.

A Cell Phone and Other Trinkets….

Money Report – Michele started things out positively coming home with 4 pennies that she found while at school. Then, during the evening walk we added 66 more cents to the coffers (1 quarter, 3 dimes, 1 nickel, and 6 pennies). Not long into walk we came across yet another cell phone, this one, a Motorola that fully charged and with plenty of available minutes. We did notify the owner who was very happy to have it back. After that, our next find came in the form of currency at the car wash with a total 53 cents. All of the coins were scattered about on the ground in and around the vacuum station areas. Then, we picked up a dime in the Sweet Creations parking lot and a penny at Luigi’s. The final penny came during my run, in which I found a single penny on Allen Street. In addition to the money finds, I snapped off a picture of some of the less valuable items that we’ve found lately.
Sox Update – Josh Beckett (9-0) was once again strong as the sox finally broke out the lumber and pounded the d-backs 10-3. More importantly, the main characters behind the breakout were J.D. Drew and Julio Lugo, along with a couple of hits from Coco Crisp. That’s a good sign and I hope it continues. It’s Tavarez going against Owings in game two.

Nearly A No-No!

Red Sox Report – Well, the losing streak is finally over, but the bigger news was how the sox did it. Curt Schilling pitched a real beauty and had his no-hit bit broken up with two outs in the ninth. Personally, I was hoping that he’d do it. At age 40, and with two other near no-hitters already to his record, these chances don’t come around that often, so to be that close, I’m sure there was some disappointment. Curt put the team first though and was happy to get the team back on the winning track. Now on to Arizona!

Money Update – All of the finds came on the evening walk with our little girl, Lexi. At the car wash, which is always a staple, we found 12 cents (1 dime and 2 pennies). The pennies were found near the vacuum areas while the dime was found in one the self-serve bays. We also nailed down a dime headed up Main Street. Michele came home with the last penny, which she found at school attending the awards ceremony for the graduating seniors.

Sox Talk – The losing streak is a 4, following another tough loss to the A’s. The sox just haven’t been able to get many runs lately and it’s cost them, even though the pitching continues to be pretty good. Hopefully this power outage doesn’t go on too long, because Tito just about blew a gasket on a terrible call by home plate umpire Dan Issogna. It will be interesting to see how the character of the club holds up during this stretch, although they are healthy and do have plenty of veterans, so I don’t see any prolonged losing streaks for this team. Curt Schilling goes tomorrow afternoon trying to avoid the first 4-game sweep by the A’s since 1971!

Money Report – After a couple of days of rain, the coin gods decided to line the streets with loot for us. Michele nailed down 36 cents on her really early morning walk (she left the house at 4:30 for a rafting trip with the graduating class). She found a quarter on Pleasant Street, 1 penny on Mill and a dime on Bridge Street, near the Social Club.

After stopping by the post office to mail some packages, I took an extended ride on the mountain bike. While doing so I found a total of 13 cents (1 dime and 3 pennies). The dime was found in front of Luigi’s, 2 pennies were found in the rite aid parking lot and 1 penny was found on Barbara.

The evening walk added 1.19 to the cause (4 quarters, 1 dime, 1 nickel and 4 pennies). At the car wash I snagged 69 cents. All of the coins were in and around the vacuum areas scattered about on the ground. Then, I found another quarter in the sweet creations parking lot, and finally, near Key Bank, I found the final quarter on the ground in one of the parking spaces.

Today Has A Ring In It….

Today we found 23 cents in change and 22 bottles and cans.

We had some severe thunderstorms roll through the area this afternoon. At times it was deluge of water, with some nickel-sized hail mixed in for good measure. I had to pull over under a tree for protection, it was that bad. We did have some luck with regard to our coin finding though, and Michele came up with 11 cents that she found at school (1 dime and 1 penny). She also found a ring in the parking lot. It’s 10k with what we think is mystic stone, borders by smaller diamonds on either side. We’ll add to the list when we go down to the jewelers. During my run (before the front came through) I found dime near Luigi’s. I also found 2 pennies at car wash to round out the scoring.
Sox Talk – It appears as if the sox have started to cool. Last night’s loss to the A’s has made it 5 of 6 in the loss column. The one positive though is that the starters continue to pitch well and witnessed in the 2-0 shutout. Hopefully, the bats will wake up tonight and we’ll get back in the win column.

Wallet Number 5!

Today we found 45 cents in change and 39 bottles and cans.

For most of the day it rain came down pretty heavy. We were hit by the remnants of the tropical storm Barry which traveled up the coast to grace us with its presence. With that in mind, we hopped in the car and ran a few errands where we had some luck finding coins. On our way down to Mardens, a discount store that has everything, we decided to hit the car wash on our way down and found 9 cents (all pennies). Then, at Mardens, we came up with another 22 cents (2 dimes and 2 pennies). All of the coins were found near the checkout areas.

When the rain did stop, we headed out for a walk with our dog Lexi. That’s where we found another wallet. This one being number 5. It was near the atm machine and, among things like his license, and atm card, there was also 27 dollars in wet, cold, cash. While some people might be tempted to pocket the loot and heave the wallet, our policy has always been to return it to its own, intact. That’s what we’ll be doing with one, too, but it still amazes me that we keep finding them.

We have some coin finds, though, during our walk. First, we picked up a single penny on Pleasant, and then a dime on Main, followed by 1 cent at the skateboard park. The final 2 cents came via Michele’s morning walk. She found 1 penny on Mill and 1 penny on Payne.

Heartbreaker....

Today we found 7 cents in change and 43 bottles and cans.

Sox Talk – It was a heartbreaker for the hometown nine this evening losing 6-5 to the Yankees. But despite Alex Rodriguez’ homerun in the ninth that ultimately gave them the win, it was the Yankees defensive gems that kept them in the game and allowed them to take the victory. Take away the catches by Cabera or Abreu, and the blocking of the plate by Posada, and the sox would have ended up winning. It’s that simple.

Money Report – We also found a measly 7 cents during our coin finding endeavors, 5 of which came on the early morning walk. Michele found one cent on Barbara and 4 pennies at the skateboard park. I was also able to snag one coin during my run, which was recovered on Payne Street. The final penny was found during a drive down to the car wash. It was a pouring rain early in the evening so we were unable to take our normal walk.

Get Ready To Rumble!

Today we found 17 cents in change and 82 bottles and cans.

Sox Talk – It was wild one at Fenway between the sox and yanks. While both pitchers at times pitched well, neither figured in the decision. It was a back and forth affair with plenty of offense from both sides. Finally though, the soxo were able to take control and come away with 11-6 win. The one scary moment of the game was the collision between Mike Lowell and Doug Mientkiewicz. While Mientkiewicz had to be assisted off the field, apparently there were no life threatening injuries. He has placed on the 15-day DL however with a mild concussion, cervical sprain, and a fractured bone is his right wrist. ESPN has tonight rubber game where Andy Pettitte takes on 8-0 Josh Beckett, weather permitting.

Money Report – Michele has been having good success on her morning walks and once again she hit pay-dirt, coming up with 3 cents. The coins were on Barbara, Witham, and Main. The evening walk added the remaining 14 cents to our total. First we found 8 cents (all pennies) from the car wash, then, coming up Main Street we found a nickel just off the sidewalk, and finally, at the skateboard park, we snagged a single penny on the ground.

Knuckling Under....

We kicked off June with a nice little haul of coins. Michele christened the new month by finding a quarter on Allen Street during her morning walk. It was at the intersection with Pleasant Street in some sand. A little later, after our run in the afternoon we went for a short bike ride. During our trek we added another 22 cents to the cause (2 dimes and 2 pennies). In order, we found 11 cents at the depot, 1 penny on Lucerne, and a dime in Front of Luigi’s Pizza. The evening walk contributed the final 27 cents, all of which came from the car wash.

Sox Talk – Well, the opening game of the series with Yankees was a good one for 3 innings. That’s when the wheels came off for Tim Wakefield. It was painful to watch as he struggled with his control, and finally, Tito came out to get him. Such is the life of a knuckleballer. Captain Curt goes in game two against old nemesis Mike Mussina, and every time I hear his name (Mussina), I think of the movie Patton. It’s the scene where George C. Scott is pointing toward the Island of Sicily and an in particular to Messina to which he says in disgust, “Messina…Messina, Bill, that’s the key!” “If they’d listened to me we’d have already taken the damn island by now.” I think Terry Francona is thinking along the same lines.

A Corgi And A Hummer!

Today we found 33 cents in change and 45 bottles and cans.
Money Report – Lately we really hadn’t been finding anything worthy of commenting on, with regard to items other than the standard coins and recyclables. However, today we came across a couple of cars, or I should say one car, a corgi benz 240D, and one all terrain in the Hummer. Both of these items were found at the car wash (see picture). Now I know some corgi’s are pretty valuable so I checked ebay to see if there was a match. Unfortunately, there wasn’t so I’ll need to do a little research as to what this one might fetch. I also added a picture of a recently found 2-cent euro coin as well.

We also had some success on our finding ventures as well. Michele found a single penny on Mill Street during her morning walk. Then later, during the course of our evening interlude, we found an additional 32 cents (1 quarter, 7 pennies). We found a quarter in the rite aid parking lot, 3 cents in the high school parking lot areas, 2 cents at the car wash and 1 penny in the 7-11 parking lot.

Sox Talk – The tribe finally broke out the lumber and salvaged game 3 of the series. As I said in a previous post, the Indians can hit, and right down line, too. Grady Sizemore is quite an athlete. They’re young, they’re strong, and they’ve got it going on! A day of rest will be a good thing with Yankees coming in on Friday.

Money Report – It was another modest day with regard to our coin finding efforts. Michele snagged a penny on Mill Street during her morning walk. In the evening we came up with 22 more cents for the kitty. First, we found a dime on Main Street, and then we added 12 cents (1 dime and 2 pennies) at the car wash. We also added a superball our growing collection.

Money Report – Well there seems to be a bit of slowdown in our money finding quest. Michele did have some luck on her early morning walk with Lexi. She found a single dime on Mill Street.

The evening walk made up the remaining 10 cents of the total. At the car wash we found 4 pennies in and around the vacuum station areas. We also found a nickel in the 7-11 parking lot. The final penny of the day was found on Main Street, right next to Key Bank.

Sox Talk – Josh Beckett came off of the disabled and didn’t miss a beat as the Bosox took another came from division leading Cleveland. Make no mistake though, this Indians team is talented and is my pick to win the Central. Hopefully we can keep the streak going tomorrow, but 2-3 isn’t bad against this team.

Today we found 46 cents in change and 77 bottles and cans.

Money Report – Michele once again got things going on the holiday finding 12 cents (all pennies). She found 1 penny on Mill, 2 on Pleasant, 2 at the depot, 5 on River Street and 2 cents on Main.

During our run we came across an additional 11 cents (2 nickels and 1 penny). I found the 2 nickels right in front of the Mill Street store and the penny was recovered on Pleasant Street, near cash corner. The evening walked kicked in the final 23 cents (2 dimes, and 3 pennies). The finds in order were: 1 penny at Cumberland Farms, 12 cents and the car wash, and a dime at Famous Pizza.

Sox Talk – The tribe came to town and for a 3-game set and the sox won a hard-fought battle 5-3. Curt Schilling pitched well and Jonathan Papelbon got the save, though there were a few tense moments. The win, coupled with another Yankee loss puts us 13 ½ ahead of the bombers as they continue to flounder. The Clemens watch is on!

Three In A Row!

Today we found 16 cents in change and 56 bottles and cans.

Red Sox Talk – For the third night in a row, the Red Sox came from behind and went on to victory, sweeping the Rangers. Julian Taravez was strong early but had one rough inning when Texas got to him for 4 runs. The sox hitters, however, bounced back the next inning and regained the lead with some clutch hitting of their own, preserving the win. Meanwhile, the Yankees lost again and are now 12 ½ games back. I must be in heaven!

Money Report – Michele came up with a single penny on her walk with Lexi. The said penny was recovered from Mill Street. The rest of the coins came via the evening walk. First, we found 4 cents in and around the car wash vacuum areas. Then, at the 7-11 we found a dime, and finally, near the now vacant karate studio, we found the last penny in some mulch. We also found a 2-cent euro coin as well.

Texas Two-Step....

Today we found 4.63 in bills and coin and 73 bottles and cans.

We had another jackpot day with our coin finding efforts. Michele found the first 4 cents of the day on her morning walk with Lexi. The first penny was found on Mill, then a penny on Barbara and 2 cents on Sherburne. During our run, Michele also scooped up a dollar-bill on Mill Street.

In the afternoon we went for a short bike ride and while doing so found 13 cents (1 dime and 3 pennies) and a pair of sunglasses. We snagged 1 penny at the car wash, 1 penny on Main, and 11 cents in the rite aid parking lot. The evening walk turned out to be the grand prizewinner with a total of 3.44 (1 quarter, multiple dimes, nickels, and a ton of pennies). All but 11 cents was found at the car wash. The other two finds were a dime on Main Street, and a penny in the 7-11 parking lot. I also found 2 additional cents in the coinstar machine at Hannafords.

Sox Talk – Another day in Texas, another come from behind victory for the sox. Tim Wakefield went 7 innings for the good guys to earn the “W”. The offense wasn’t too bad either pounding out 7 runs, 5 of which came after the Rangers had taken the lead. Tomorrow we go for the possible sweep.

Sox Update – Thanks to some terrific offense, we took game one of a 3-game set with the Rangers. Dice-k pitched pretty well until the fourth, but then became ill (stomach virus). Even with that, though, he did gut out 5 innings while his teammates hammered out 10 runs for him. After that, the bullpen took over and made it stick. Tim Wakefield takes the mound in game two.

Money Report – It was a relatively slow day for coins, probably due to everyone traveling over the long weekend. After getting in a run where I didn’t find any coins, I headed out on the mountain bike where I gathered up 27 cents (1 quarter, 2 pennies). All of the finds came at the 7-11. The evening walk only added 2 more cents to our total. Both pennies were found at the car wash.

Cap Update – So far, our coke rewards point total stands at 4,108. We would have more points but I’ve been spending 3 of every 30 entered per day on two of the sweepstakes prizes. Let’s hope we win. We’ve come up empty so far on the Pepsi promotion, but we continue to add entries. The Sunkist promotion has netted us a music download and wallpaper but nothing substantial, and the Dr. Pepper promotion has us at a total of 4 points. We just haven’t run across many of these yet.

Today we found 50 cents in change 147 bottles and cans.

So I was surfing around the web today looking for any interesting information and I came across this interesting thread from the New Scientist. He goes on to talk about aluminum cans and how quickly they can be recycled and reused, not to mention using on a fraction of the original cost (and energy) to do it. It’s an interesting read.

Money Update – Michele contributed two cents to the cause during her morning walk with Lexi. The first penny was found on Allen and the second on Pleasant. A little later I was out on the mountain for a ride and came up with 11 cents (1 dime and 1 penny) in the 7-11 parking lot. On the evening walk I added 27 cents to total. The first 26 (1 quarter, and 1 penny) came at the car wash, and then I found a single penny at the skateboard park. Michele added the final dime, which she found at school.

Sox Talk – Well we finally lost a series, and to Yankees of all teams. Curt Schilling was definitely off his game, but Andy Pettitte wasn’t on his either. Both pitchers struggled. The only difference was that the Yanks made some real nice plays on defense. Now, after a day off, we head to Texas where the rotation returns to normal with Beckett coming off the dl. All is well in our Red Sox world.

Other baseball news – The rocket, Roger Clemens made his second minor league start, this time against AA opponent, the Portland Seadogs. He went up against Clay Buccholz who scouts say out-pitched Clemens. He gave up 2 runs on 7 hits without issuing a walk and striking out 8. Clemens was far from perfect, and had base runners in scoring position in every inning. He gave up 3 runs on 6 hits, 4 walks and hit a batter. I love Roger’s comment on his performance “It was one step in the right direction” Huh? I’d say that’s not what the Yankees were hoping for.

Money Report – Our currency finds were pretty spread out during the day. First, I went for a ride on the mountain bike after my run and came up with 11 cents for my efforts (1 dime and 1 penny). The dime was found in the rite aid parking lot while the penny was recovered on Grove. On the evening walk found another 44 cents (2 dimes, 2 nickels, and 14 pennies). At the car wash we found at total of 28 cents that was scattered about near the vacuum areas. Next, we found a nickel near the courthouse, and finally, on Main Street, we found a dime to round out the total.

Sox Update – Well, we’ve evened up the series at one apiece, thanks to a gutsy pitching performance by Julian Tavarez and some timely hitting by the offense, including a titanic shot by Manny Ramirez. If I were Joe Torre though, losing the game would be the least of my problems. Mike Mussina looked terrible. His fastball at times only reached 84 mph, and had trouble locating his pitches. In my opinion he was lucky to last as long as he did. Listening to his comments on Sportscenter only confirmed what I saw, and made you wonder if the guy was contemplating retirement, it was that telling. There’s either something physically wrong with him or he’s lost it. Curt Schilling goes to the hill against Andy Pettitte tonight in the final game.

Money Report – We had another pretty good day on the streets of our little town. Michele found one penny at school to start off the scoring. The evening walk contributed the rest of the coinage to our total. First we found a penny on the corner of Mill and Main Street, then at the car wash we found 1.18 (3 quarters, 3 dimes, and 13 pennies). All of the coins were scattered about near the vacuum areas or found in the self-serve bays. The final coin, a dime, was found near Luigi’s to round the total. In addition, we also found a LSU Tiger! Looks like another yard sale item to me.

No Joy In Gotham....

Sox Talk – The Yankees drew first blood in the 3-game series against our beloved Red Sox 6-3. Neither pitcher was on their game as both Wang and Wakefield struggled. Our biggest mistake, though, was not taking advantage of the chances we had in the both the first and second innings. Add a few runs there and it’s a whole different ballgame. Hopefully we’ll be able to even things up tonight against old man Mussina.

Money Update – Our coin finds were spread out over the day. Michele got things going by finding a nickel on her morning walk, which she found on Bridge Street near the Social Club. I also snagged a penny during my run on Allen St, and then 7 cents (1 nickel and 2 pennies) at the post office while mailing a package.

The evening walk netted us 56 cents (1 quarter, 2 dimes, and 11 pennies). All of the coinage was collected in and around the vacuum areas. Michele brought home the last coin of the day, a nickel, which she found at the high school.

The Mother Load!

Today we found 4.80 in change and 60 bottles and cans.

We had a huge of coin finding, as the third consecutive day of rain seemed to bring us luck. Michele had some good luck on morning walk with Lexi as she came up with 21 cents (2 dimes, 1 penny). The first dime was found at the Depot and the remaining 11 cents was found at the high school.

The evening walk, however, is where we really cashed in. Once again it was a big payday at the car wash donating 4.58 to the cause (multiple quarters, dimes, nickels and hoard of pennies). Most of it was lying on one of the vacuum islands, but some of the coins were also scattered about on the ground. The only other coin of the day was a penny that we found in the 7-11 parking lot. In addition to coins, we also found a small heart-shaped locket and a Phillips screwdriver.

Sox Talk – Kason Gabbard toed the rubber for the sox and got us the series win with a pretty nice outing. It’s big win for the sox, considering that the Yankees moved back Mussina and Pettitte for a circle-the-wagons, last stand, starting tomorrow. If we take one game from the Yankees on their home turf, it’s as good a series win as far as I’m concerned. If we take 2 or 3, watch George start swinging the axe.

Sox Talk – Well things couldn’t have been any more different if you had planned them out. After breaking out the lumber in the afternoon game against the Braves (13-3), we got our heads beat in during the nightcap 14-0. I know it only counts as one loss but man oh man did Atlanta get some pay back. I must say though, both Matsuzaka and Smoltz pitched brilliantly as expected. It should be interesting tomorrow.

Money Update – Michele got things going this morning with a find of a single penny during walk with Lexi. She found the lone penny in the subway parking lot. A bit later, she needed to run a couple of errands, and while at Walmart she picked up 2 more cents.

The remaining 1.04 was found while on the evening walk. At the car wash we came up with 78 cents (3 quarters, 3 pennies). The 3 quarters were atop one of the ledges for the vacuum machines while the pennies were discovered on the ground nearby. Then, at the 7-11 we found a single penny in the parking lot. The final find was a quarter at the ssya field.

It was a soggy one out there today during our search for the elusive coins. The entire haul of 20 cents was recovered during the evening walk. First we found a single penny near sweet creations, then, at the skateboard park, we collected up another 13 cents (1 dime and 3 pennies). After that we scooped up a nickel in the 7-11 parking lot and then a penny right next to the count house to round out the scoring.

Sox Update – No game tonight, that’s means two tomorrow. At least we gained another half game on the Yankees who lost again.

A Day-Night Sweep!

Today we found 52 cents in change and 100 bottles and cans.

It wasn’t pretty, but we got two wins from the Tigers. Julian Tavarez pitched a beauty in the first game and we somehow scratched up enough runs to get him the win. Coco Crisp’s play early on the base-paths proved to be important as it led to one of the runs the sox scored. That with some good defense help preserved the win.
Hinske was the hero in the second game, both offensively and defensively, hitting a two-run bomb late and making a diving, albeit painful catch to snuff out a tiger rally. The best part about the Red Sox wins was that the Yankees lost in the process putting them 9 ½ games behind Boston. Yeah Baby!

Money Report – All of our coin finds came during the evening walk. At the car wash we found a total of 41 cents (1 quarter, 1 dime and 6 pennies) all but one penny was found in and around the vacuum areas scattered on the ground. One penny was found in the self-serve bays. In addition, we also found a watch and a pair of sunglasses.

The final 11 cents of the day was found at the 7-11. Both coins (1 dime and 1 penny) were found sitting on the ledge of a payphone.

Sox Update – No game tonight for the Fenway Faithful; that means a day-night double header tomorrow. It is nice to know that the Yankees have already lost their first game of twin-bill.

Money Report – It’s been raining pretty much all day around here so I decided to head out and run some errands, namely the post office to mail packages and some much needed grocery shopping. While on my way to Demoulas Supermarket, I stopped at the Black Dog car wash in Somersworth. Walking around the different vacuum areas I found a total of 13 cents (1 dime and 3 pennies). On my way back I stopped at a no-name car wash in Somersworth and picked up another penny plus a nice cache of bottles. Michele added a penny to the cause during her morning walk with Lexi that she found on Mill Street.

The evening walk made up the remainder of our total with 32 cents. We found a penny in the Rite Aid parking lot, a dime on Main Street, 2 nickels at the car wash, and a dime and a penny at the skateboard park.

Status Quo...

Today we found 61 cents in change and 96 bottles and cans.

We had some rain to contend today for much of the morning, but by the time the afternoon rolled around, the sun made an appearance and it even got a little muggy (ugh!). I was thankful that I did the yard work yesterday in the drier weather.

That being said, I decided to head out for a ride on the mountain bike where I found 2 pennies on Frost Street. The evening walk produced another 57 cents (2 quarters, 1 nickel and 2 pennies). We found the first penny in the rite aid parking lot, then a quarter and a nickel at the high school. The car wash kicked 26 and while the final penny was found at sweet creations. Michele added 2 pennies to the total that she found while at school.

Cap Update – So far, our point total for the coke rewards stands at 3,889, which we’re adding to at a rate of 30 per day. The Pepsi, and Sunkist promotions are underway, so far I’ve only won a music download between them but it’s early. There’s also another new promotion from Dr. Pepper. It’s similar to the coke rewards scenario where each cap is worth points. Our total currently stands at 4 points.

Diamonds?

Today we found 17 cents in change and 120 bottles and cans.

We’ve been finding some interesting items lately in our little town. As you can see by the pictures, it’s a regular treasure trove of trinkets out there. One of note though is a 3-stone pendant. Under a 10x loupe I did find a mark on the back but I can’t read the karat amount. As for the stones, again I’m not sure, but I’m bringing it down to a local jeweler we know along with an 18k gold horseshoe ring we found last year which I’m pretty sure that its stones are diamonds based on the quality of the gold. Once I have any news I’ll update it here.
Money Report – Coins have been scarce over the past few days and Monday was no exception. I picked up my first two coins during a run down to the post office on my bike. On the way back I hit a few areas to be known havens for coins. I found one penny in the 7-11 parking lot and 1 penny near the China Lau.

The evening walk proved to be a bit more fruitful coming up with 13 cents (all pennies). I found 2 pennies in the rite aid parking lot, 1 penny on Main Street near the intersection of Oak, 1 penny in the High School parking lot, 8 pennies near Unicel, and 1 penny in the 7-11 parking lot. Michele came home with the final two cents, which she found at school in the parking lot.

Sox Update – We were able to squeak out another victory over a tough Tiger squad. Dice-k went all the way for the home team giving us our first complete game of the year. Wakefield takes the mound for game two.

What A Comeback!

Today we found 43 cents in change and 75 bottles and cans.

All I can say is, what a comeback. After being put to sleep for 8 1/3 innings, all it took was a dropped popup to ignite the sox as they crawled out of the coffin to steal a win away from the Orioles. Conversely, while getting the win, we put one more nail in the Yankees coffin as their loss put them an even 8 games behind us in the American League East. Old George must be about ready to have a coronary. Next on the menu, Tiger!

Money Report – Michele was the first to find a coin today, scoring a nickel that she found on coming out of church on North Street. In the afternoon we headed out for a short bike ride and added an additional 4 cents to the kitty. Then, on the evening walk we picked the final 34 cents (1 quarter, and 9 pennies). We snagged a penny at Rite Aid, 32 cents at the car wash and 1 penny in the 7-11 parking lot.

Well the sox bounced back today with a win over the Orioles. Schilling wasn’t too bad although he left in the sixth. The bullpen was tough though and the boys poured on it an overworked Baltimore staff to seal the deal.

Money Update – The evening walk produced the majority of the coins finds today. At rite aid, I found a single penny, then at the car wash I added 22 cents to the total (1 dime and 12 pennies). All of the coins were near the vacuum areas. Next, I found a penny at Sweet Creations and the finally, I snagged a dime at the skateboard park. Michele also contributed a dime total during a pit stop as she was headed home.

Today we found 10 cents in change and 59 bottles and cans.

There wasn’t much change to find on what was a beautiful Friday. Of the 4 pennies I came across, the first was found during my run on Pleasant. Another was found a during my ride on the mountain bike at the depot, and the final 2 pennies came via the evening walk at the car wash. Michele also came up with 6 cents. She went up north for a visit with her mom and the found change is the result of a couple of stops along the way.

Sox Talk – The O’s proved to be tough last night taking the first came of the series. Say what you want about Miquel Tejada, but the man can still play. He made two nice defensive plays that ended rallies and he always dangerous with the bat.

Break Out The Brooms!

Today we found 1.05 in change and 151 bottle and cans.

The Red Sox continued their winning ways tonight steamrolling the Blue Jays for a sweep of the series 8-0. Toronto ace Roy Halladay was off the mark, both with velocity and with location and sox took full advantage. Meanwhile, Tim Wakefield threw another gem combining with Hideki Okajima and J.C. Romero for the shutout. He has to be the best 4-3 pitcher in the major leagues right now (ERA 1.76). With any run support he’d have 6 or 7 wins.

The other side of the rivalry – You have to wonder if Wang’s fingernail makeover was the cause of his woeful performance today and the stadium. Either way, the rangers didn’t care as they took out a can of whoop-ass on the bombers with a 14-2 drubbing. Sure, it’s only one loss, but it drops them to 7 games back of the sox and now they hit the highway for a lengthy road trip against Seattle, the White Sox and the Mets, if they play 500 ball during that time and the sox and win at home, the lead could balloon to 9 or 10 games when they return home. I smell trouble!

Money Report – It was another slow start to our coin finding today. Our first coin was found when I stopped at Cumberland Farms to gas up. I found a single penny in the parking lot. Michele also found a penny at school.

The evening walk accounted for the remaining 1.03 (2 quarters, 3 dimes, 2 nickels and 13 pennies). First, we found 19 cents at the high school, then 20 cents at the car wash, 37 cents was found on the sidewalk headed up Main Street, a single quarter at Sweet Creations, and 2 cents in the 7-11 parking lot.

Sidebar – I just noticed that there are two new cap games, the Sunkist “drink share win” which is underway and the up-coming Pepsi promotion “transform your summer” game which starts on the 14th of May.

Hi-oh Silver!

Today we found 75 cents in change and 107 bottles and cans.

During our coin finding ventures today we came across a silver dime. Check out this 1956 model we found. I knew I had a silver coin in my hand the minute I heard it clink against the quarter and penny I found with it. It’s kind of funny, too, because just last night I left Brian a comment saying that a silver coin has a sound all of its own. I guess my hears are attuned to it now as its become old hat.

As for the rest of the money story, Michele found a pair of nickels on her morning walk. Both the specimens were discovered on Payne, which lately has been a desert. The evening walk delivered another 65 cents for the choir. First we found a penny on Witham Street, then at car wash we found 63 cents (2 quarters, 1 sliver dime, and 3 pennies). All of the coins were found near the vacuum areas. The final penny of the walk was found in the skateboard park. Were also on record pace with bottles and cans.

Sox Talk – Dice-k was on his game tonight only giving up 1 run or 5 hits. Toronto on the other hand, was not on their game, losing to the bosox 9-3. They’ve moved up ace Roy Halladay to try and avoid a sweep and also attempt to break their losing streak, which stands at 8. Wake will take the hill for the good guys.

A Whole Lot Of Coins....

Today we found 2.28 in change and 129 bottles and cans.

We really hit the jackpot today with regard our coin finding. Michele started the action off with 27 cents (1 quarter and 2 pennies) on her morning walk. The quarter and a penny were found in the parking lot across from the Library and the second penny was found on Main Street.

The evening walk is where we really cleaned up with a 1.96 (1 quarter, 2 dimes and 151 pennies). First, at the High School, we found 26 cents (1 quarter and 1 penny) in the school parking lot. At the car wash we snagged a pile of pennies with a dime mixed in on one of the islands. Next, we found a dime at the ssya field and finally, at Sweet Creations, we picked up a single penny. Michele rounded out the coin finds with a nickel that she found at school.

Sox Talk – For some reason I thought the sox were playing a 4-game set with Toronto. Turns out, it’s only a 3 game series. We bombed the Jays and Victor Zambrano tonight with a solid 9-2 win. Josh Beckett was lights out after giving up a first pitch, first inning homerun to Alex Rios. It’s dice-k tomorrow as we go for 2 in a row.

Recycling And The Environment....

Today we found 66 cents in change and 101 bottles and cans.

Recycling and the environment – Andy, over at “The Found Money Jar” got me thinking today. As many of you know, I’ve been aggressively recycling cans and bottles (glass, aluminum, and plastic) for some time now. I was telling him how I thought that my carbon footprint had to be negative and that I should sell carbon offsets because of the amount of Carbon Dioxide I’m keeping from entering the atmosphere.

Well, as I said earlier, it got me thinking, not about selling credits, but about just how much effect my recycling habits have on my carbon footprint. I found good source that calculates the different materials to their oil/energy equivalent. First I did the calculation for the plastic bottles, which made up about 62 ½ percent of the total. I figure on average (again these are rough estimates) each bottle weighed on about 1 ounce. I took into consideration the 2-liter bottles and other odd sizes, as well as the small water bottles like Poland Spring and Aquafina. The figure in pounds came in at 663. Next, I did the Aluminum cans. Again, I weighed the various sizes and frequency of the cans found. I figured each can to weigh approximately .03 Ounces, and I figured about 3 cans per ounce. Using that calculation I came up with 115 pounds or 32 ½ percent of the overall recycled containers. Finally, I did the glass, which made up about 5 percent or so of the total. Again, weighing various containers, I came up with an average of 10 ounces per container. The total here was 1,272 pounds.

When I did my calculations for all three against the fuel necessary to create them, I came up with a total of roughly 435 gallons, or 10 ½ barrels of oil. Now I’m just one person, but imagine if just one in 1000 did what I’m doing, and that’s not even taking into account the measures we already have in place, things cfl’s, reduced car use, recycling paper and cardboard products as well our curbside recycling of glass jars, tin cans and the like. You can see how much of a difference one person can make. Want an easy way to reduce your carbon footprint? How about planting a tree or two.

Money Report – While coin finding was pretty good, it did start off slowly. After stopping at the post office to mail some packages, I headed to Hannaford’s supermarket to pick up a few grocery items. While there, I found one penny and a uk 1 cent new penny. Apparently they made them from 1971 to 1981.

The rest of the loot came via the evening walk. Walking through the rite aid parking lot we found one penny. Then, at the car wash, we added in another 61 cents (2 quarters, 1 nickel and 6 pennies). All of the coins were found in and around the vacuum areas. Michele found the final 3 cents in the parking lot at school.

Red Sox Update – Chock up another win for Curt Schilling. The old master pitched a beauty until he ran out of gas in the 7th. Still, Okajima and Papelbon came on to put out the fire and close the door. Tomorrow is a day off and then we head to Toronto (who always gives us trouble) for a 4-game series.

Clemens joins Yankees – Ok, I’m getting up on the soapbox for this one. While I know the Yankees are desperate for pitching—and that Red Sox really didn’t need him, it would have been a fairy tale ending for the Rocket if he had come to Boston. He could have come full circle, ending his career where he started it, he could have set the all-time mark for career wins in a Boston uniform, and who better to take the place of a hall-of-famer like Cy Young then another soon-to-be hall-of-famer in Roger Clemens. Plus, he’d have the chance to win World Series again. Instead, he chooses to return to Yankees. Yes, the Yankees are a good team, and yes they have personnel to win it all, but why? He has nothing to prove by wearing pinstripes. What’s his reasoning? Greed, plain and simple, it couldn’t be anything else. The almighty dollar has spoken and in Roger we trust.

Mark this down on your calendars folks, because you heard it here first. Years from now when Roger is the hall of fame, a reporter will ask him what his biggest regret was. He’ll tell them that he shouldn’t have taken the 28 million from the Yankees and returned to Boston.

Money Report – We ended the weekend with a great day of coin finding. Michele found 28 cents on her morning walk with Lexi. She found a quarter near Subway, 1 penny at the Depot and 2 pennies at the skateboard park.

The evening walk added another 1.02 to the hometown total. First, at the car wash, we found 70 cents (2 quarters, 1 dime, 1 nickel, and 5 pennies). The quarters were atop a coin slot ledge in one of the self-serve bays while the rest of the change was found in and around the vacuum island areas. At the Junior High we came up with 12 cents (2 nickels and 2 pennies) that we found in the parking lot, and then heading up Main Street we picked off another 20 cents (1 dime, 1 nickel and 5 pennies).

Today we found 1.36 in change and 42 bottles and cans.

We were out and about today running a few errands. The first place we headed was Home Depot. We’ve been remodeling our second bathroom and we needed to buy some molding and the stain to go with it. While we were there we found 5 pennies in various places throughout the store. After that, we stopped for a bite to eat at Taco Bell, where we found another 2 pennies. I needed to hit Staples for some shipping supplies and while walking through the parking lot, and the adjacent movie rental parking lot, we picked up 5 more pennies. Finally, heading through Somersworth we stopped at a no-name car wash and pocketed another 15 cents (1 dime, and 5 pennies) to our total.

As for other coin finds throughout the day, Michele hit pay dirt with 45 cents on her morning walk. She found 2 pennies on Mill, a nickel on Ellis, 2 pennies at Subway, and 1 penny in front of the Black Bear Café. She also found 35 cents (1 quarter and 1 dime) in the parking lot just in front the Goodwill store.

The evening walk added 65 more cents to an already great day (2 quarters, 1 dime, and 5 pennies). First we found 2 pennies on Frost Street, then a penny heading down Main Street. At the car wash we found 37 cents (1 quarter, 1 dime, and 2 pennies) and then a lone quarter heading up Main.

Red Sox Update – It was tough loss for the Beantown Boys. We were able to get Santana’s pitch count up early, forcing him to leave after five innings, but the Minnesota bullpen put the clamps on the offense, sending us to defeat, 2-1. I’ll say this, Minnesota plays great defense on a daily basis and it paid off tonight. They’ve always been solid on the fundamentals but I don’t think it get mentioned enough. Hopefully we can take the rubber game tomorrow with Schilling on the bump.

Sidebar – I almost forgot to mention that we found a pair of gold earrings today. Michele seems to think they might be for a young girl. There’s a small stone (ruby perhaps) in each one. It’s a nice addition to a growing jewelry stash.

Red Sox Update – Wake was great and it led to another sox win. I’m not real comfortable though with the recent run support, or lack there of he’s been getting. It reminds me of the old days when Roger Clemens would take the hill. Back then they’d score a run or two and say “go get them, tiger”, which the Rocket did on a regular basis. We’ve got our work cut out for us tomorrow against Santana. Maybe he’ll have an off day!

Money Report – Boy, we’ve really been on a nice streak of coin finding, I almost hesitate to say anything for fear that it might dry up. Michele had a great start to the day coming up with 22 cents (2 dimes and 2 pennies). She found all of the coins on Mill Street. The evening proved to be good as well netting 1.07 (3 quarters, 2 dimes, 1 nickel, and 7 pennies). First, at the high school, we picked up 36 cents, then at the car wash we added another 61 cents, and finally, we snagged a dime in the 7-11 parking lot.

Today we found 84 cents in change and 125 bottles and cans.

On the whole, today was a fairly successful one. Michele found 8 cents on her early morning walk with Lexi (1 nickel and 3 pennies). The first 6 cents was found on Mill Street, then a penny on Harris and a penny in front of the Black Bear Café. A little while later I found a dime during my run on Rankin Street. I also found a 10-point coke code as well.

The evening walk contributed another 64 cents to the total (2 quarters, 1 dime and 4 pennies). We found 1 penny in the rite aid parking lot, and then at the car wash, came up with 38 more cents. The pennies were found in and around the vacuum areas while the quarter and dime were found in the self-serve bays. The final find was a quarter on the ground in the 7-11 parking lot. Michele rounded out the total with 2 pennies she found at school. Bottles and cans continue to be at a premium.

Sox Update – It wasn’t pretty tonight but we got the win, thanks to a late inning smash by Manny Ramirez (2 hr game) to save the day. Now it’s off to Minnesota for a 3-game set with the twinkies.

Back On The Winning Track!

Today we found 18 cents in change and 91 bottles and cans.
The Red Sox bounced back with a pretty solid effort tonight over the A’s. Beckett went to 6-0 and the sox got a split of the series. The highlight of the night though was Coco Crisp’s catch in center. It’s a web gem for sure on Baseball Tonight!
Money Update – Coins were hard to come by on the streets of Springvale/Sanford. I got things going by finding a penny during my run. The lone coin was found on Pleasant Street. I also found a penny down at Holdsworth Park on my cool down.

The even walk wasn’t a whole lot better coming up with a paltry 5 pennies, all of which were found at the car wash. At the Hannaford Supermarket I found a dime in the coin star machine, and Michele came home with the last penny, one that she found at school.

Sidebar – During the evening walk I though I had found my second gold ring, unfortunately, after close inspection that was not the case. I spied the item walking up Main Street just off the sidewalk in the grass. It was the two stones in the ring that caught my attention first, causing me to turn around and take another look. Like I said though, it wasn’t the real thing, nor were the diamond like stones (CZ). I did find a real sharp looking straight head screwdriver though, which will be a nice addition to the toolbox.

No Relief!

Today we found 1.32 in change and 102 bottles and cans.

Well I know it had to happen sooner or later, but the bullpen finally gave up the ghost. Curt Schilling pitched a gem through 7 innings and then Okajima pitched the eighth without trouble. However, Papelbon was unable to stem the tide giving up 2 runs on a homerun to tie the game. It was evident after about the first batter that he didn’t have is good stuff. His fastball topped out at between 92 and 94 and he couldn’t locate his other pitches. Still, the sox had a chance to win it in the ninth but failed to score. Let’s hope we can turn the tide tomorrow and get a split.

Other Baseball News – Looks like the Yankees are having more pitching woes. Hughes went down tonight with a hamstring injury that’ll put him on the shelf for 4-6 weeks. It’s too bad as he was throwing a no-no when it happened.

Money Report - Now for the good stuff, Michele found a dime on her run this afternoon. She snagged the little devil on Mill Street. During the evening walk we added another 1.22 to the pot. At the car wash is where we did the most damage picking up 1.01 (3 quarters, 2 dimes, and 6 pennies). All of the coins were found scattered on the ground near the various vacuum areas. We also found a dime at Springvale Hardware and 11 cents (1 dime and 1 penny) in the 7-11 parking lot.

Today we found 90 cents in change and 62 bottles and cans.

We ended April on a good note as the coin finding was once again plentiful. Michele got things going by finding 2 cents at school. Then, on the evening walk we scooped up the remaining 88 cents (2 quarters, 2 dimes, 1 nickel and 13 pennies). We snagged 37 on Merrill, 16 cents and the car wash, 2 cents and the 7-11, 1 penny on Main Street, and 31cents at the skateboard park.

About this month’s total – I was just tallying up this month’s money total and I found that it’s our 3rd highest ever (28.82). Not too bad. The other totals in the 1 and 2 position are 32.31 (Nov 06), and 30.03 (Sept 05).

Indian Head Cent Found!

Today we found 65 cents in change and 27 bottles and cans.

Well we’ve had another first here at “One Coin At A Time”. We found our first Indian Head cent today. It was in the 7-11 parking lot along with another penny. Unfortunately, we can’t read the date because it’s so well worn. You can see the Indian face though. I tried a close up scan of the coin for picture purposes but it wasn’t very revealing.

Other than the aforementioned 2 pennies, Michele found 3 cents on her morning walk with Lexi. She picked up 1 cent on Mill Street and 2 pennies near the metrocast building. The 60 remaining cents came on the evening walk at the following areas: 13 cents (1 dime and 3 pennies) at the Junior High School, a quarter at the ssya field, and 20 cents at the car wash (1 dime and 10 pennies). I added another picture of some of the recent oddball finds we’ve come across lately.

Sox Talk – It sure was nice to take 2 of 3 from the Yankees on their own turf. I also like the fact that we beat Wang to do it. I’m not getting too far ahead of myself, though, as the Yankees have done this before and then really turned it on. My advice for the Red Sox is to keep winning, just keep winning!

You're Out!....Down And Out, That Is!

Today found 91 cents in change and 47 bottles and cans.

It’s been raining off and on here the past couple of days. Normally, you would think that the coin finding would get harder, but actually, it’s pretty good. Take today for instance. Michele scooped up 4 cents on her morning walk. She found the pennies, on Mill, Allen and Payne respectively. The evening walk was once again the breadwinner with 87 cents (3 quarters, 1 dime and 2 pennies). 1 of the quarters, the dime and the 2 pennies were found around the vacuum areas. The other 2 quarters were found under a drainage grate, which is in front of each automatic wash. We simply pulled up the small grating and picked up the coins resting a few inches below.

Sox Talk – I tip my hat to Kei Igawa. After the original starter Jeff Karstens was hit by a line-drive, Igawa came in and shut the sox down completely, not that they didn’t have their chances. Tomorrow’s game is super important for the sox now as they hope to take the rubber game and head out of town with the series and the Yanks in the rearview mirror at 6 ½ games back.

A-rod coming down to earth – one other sidebar on the Yankees, it seems that Alex Rodriguez is starting to fall back to earth. Hey, he had a good run, but lately he’s been swinging and missing more and the big hits are becoming less frequent. I’m waiting for the Yankee faithful to start in with their boos again. Today he had his chances and came up empty; it was the same thing yesterday. Maybe tomorrow some Bronx jeers.

Four In A Row!

Today we found 1.37 in change and 27 bottles and cans.

I’m not sure if Joe Torre is having a lot of fun managing the Yankees right now. With the bombers in the midst of a 7-game skid and George Steinbrenner banging the war drums, you almost begin to wonder if he’s going to last the season. It doesn’t help matters any that the strength of the rotation, starters Mike Mussina and Chin Meng Wang have already had stints on the disabled list. Add to the fact the Carl Pavano has again been a bust, has left Torre grasping for straws. In will be interesting, at the very least to decipher the playful banter that leaks out of the big apple if this trend goes on for very much longer.

Having said that, it was a good win for the sox. Not only did they beat the Yanks most reliable starter in Andy Pettitte, but they also continued to wear down an already overworked Yankees relief core, including closer Mariano Rivera who didn’t make it out of the ninth. Things could get really interesting if Tim Wakefield can continue his winning ways today.

Money Report – We ended the workweek with another solid day of coin finding. Michele got things going with a 15-cent find at school (1 dime and 1 nickel). Both coins were located in one of the school’s halls. During the evening we came up with another 1.22 for the fund. Our first coin, a penny was found in the rite aid parking lot, and then we snagged two more cents at Subway. The high school was the big scorer of day adding 75 cents to the total (1 quarter, 1 dime, 5 nickels, and 14 pennies). The change was found in variety of areas around the school. At the car wash we picked up 13 cents (1 dime and 3 pennies) in and around the vacuum areas. Then, at Cumberland Farms we found 12 cents (1 dime and 2 pennies), 16 cents at the skateboard park (1 dime, 1 nickel, and 1 penny), 2 pennies on Main Street and 1 cent in the 7-11 parking lot.

Yes, the Orioles have improved, yes, they are going to get better, but, just not right at this moment. I must give kudos to the Baltimore starters as I thought they pitched pretty well but Schilling (last night), and Beckett (tonight) were better. Next stop, New York! All aboooooooarrrd!

Today we found 2.25 in change and 41 bottles and cans.

It was another day of firsts for the gang at “One Coin At A Time”. Strolling through the car wash today we came upon what appeared to be a couple of quarters with a dime. However, upon closer inspection I noticed that they were Susan B. Anthony dollar coins. I had previously found one of the new dollar coins but this was the first time finding any of these, and then finding 2 to boot. We did find an additional 15 cents as well. Six pennies came from the car wash and 3 pennies came from the high school. Michele gathered up the last 6 cents (1 nickel and 1 penny). She found the nickel on Mill Street during her walk and the penny at school in the parking lot on her way out to the car.

Sox Talk – After a couple of hangover losses to the Jays, the sox got back on the winning track again. Schilling got the “W” and pitched pretty well. Papelbon came in for the save. We need to get a win tomorrow so that we’ll have some momentum heading in to the Bronx for round two with Yankees.

Still In Clean Up Mode....

Today we found 91 cents in change and 42 bottles and cans.

Well were still cleaning up the backyard from the storm last week. We had all kinds of interesting items wash up on shore from the Mousam River now that the water has receded. Things like an old pull-tab beer can, parts of a deck, a tennis ball, an old soap dispenser, you get the idea. Plus, I’ve been boxing up the wood for the past couple of days as well. There was so much of it from the high winds that it’s overwhelming. I’m sure I’ll be continuing to do that for a while, too.

Money Report – Michele picked up one penny on her walk with Lexi in the morning, which she found on Mill Street. The evening walk gave us the remaining 90 cents of our total. We scored 75 cents at the car wash (1 quarter, 1 dime, 6 nickels and 5 pennies). The quarter was found atop the coin slot ledge in one of the self-serve bays while the rest of the coins were collected from the various vacuum areas.

Sidebar – I know I don’t mention them too often, but we find a lot of interesting items during our walks and bike rides. I took a picture of some of the more recent items. I wouldn’t say they’re valuable but certainly worth a look.

Feeling Like Summer....

Today we found 64 cents in change and 102 bottles and cans.

Talk about crazy weather, last week we were in the middle of a nor’easter that dropped 8 inches of rain of us, and kept the temperatures in the 30’s and 40’s, and today it was almost 80. Sure, it’s only one day and then we start retreating back into the more seasonal temps, but damn, talk about extremes, we have them here in the northeast for sure.

Money Report – Michele contributed 26 cents to the day’s total during her early morning walk (1 quarter and 1 penny). She found the quarter in the parking lot across from the library, and the penny was recovered from Allen Street.

I was solo on the evening walk but was able to tack on 38 cents to the total. At the high school we snagged 7 cents (1 nickel and 2 pennies). The three coins were found in the front and side parking areas. At the car wash we added 30 cents (1 quarter and 5 pennies) All but one penny was found in and around the vacuum areas. The remaining penny was on the ground at one of the self-serve bays. Finally, we found a penny on Witham Street. It was also another solid day for the bottle and can numbers.

Sidebar – Cap Update – Coke has extended their promotion through 2008 and we’ve been adding points at the rate of 30 per day. So far our point total is at 3455, and counting. The Pepsi free ride and other related products for that promotion have been getting hard to come by. We were getting them pretty steady for a while but they’ve just about dried up. So far no luck on winning a car, but I’ll keep you posted as the promotion runs until 4/30. The power aid promotion was officially ended in early April, however, the points were rolled into the coke promotion which is good for me as it added over 800 points to our total. The Lebron (sprite) and dr. pepper promotion have also expired and I haven’t seen any new promotions as of yet though I will keep you updated when I do.

Clean Sweep!

Today we found 61 cents in change and 221 bottles and cans.

What a day it was for the Red Sox. First, the sox hit 4 homeruns in a row and then they completed the sweep of the Yankees. It just doesn’t get any better than that. But, let's give the Yanks credit, there were in every game and were ahead at some point in every game. So unless you’re detached from the real world, which I doubt very few of us are, then let’s treat it for what it is and move on, especially in light of the 2nd series next week on the horizon at Yankee Stadium.

Money Report – Michele started things off on what was just a beautiful with 5 cents (all pennies). She found 2 on Mill, 1 on Allen, and 2 Water Street. She also found a penny while coming out of church as well. During our run we added 2 pennies to the cause. Both we found on Pleasant Street. The rest of the total came via the evening walk. First, we found a single penny in the rite aid parking lot. Next, on our way down Main Street we picked up 30 cents (2 dimes and 2 nickels). We also found a dime in the Subway parking lot as well. At the car wash we found 2 more pennies, and heading up Main Street we collected another dime for our efforts. In addition, we had a mammoth day on the bottle and can front.

First Greenback For 2007!

Today we found 2.26 in bills and coin, and 25 bottles and cans.

Well it finally happened; we found our first greenback of the year. Michele found it during her morning walk with Lexi. Actually she came up with a total of 1.18. She found 6 cents on Barbara, 2 pennies on Sherburne, 1 penny on Pleasant, 1.02 at the depot (1 dollar bill, 2 pennies), 5 cents at the High School (nickel) and 2 cents on Main Street. A little while later I found a quarter on my way into Hannaford’s to pick up a couple of grocery items.

On the evening walk we came up with another 83 cents (1 quarter, 4 dimes, 1 nickel and 13 pennies). First, we found 21 cents in the form of 2 dimes and a penny on Main Street. In addition, we also found a 1-dollar megabucks ticket for tonight. It’s the first time we’ve actually found a valid lottery ticket so we hope it’s a good omen. We snagged a penny in the Subway parking as well.

At the car wash we added another 50 cents to the total. All of the coins were in the usual places, in and around the vacuum areas. Finally, heading up Main Street we snagged the last 11 cents (1 dime and a penny).

Sox Talk – Chock up another win for the bosox. Ok, I know the Yanks were without Damon and Posada, but, as a wise man once told me, a win, is a win, is a win. Dice-k is next on the hill and I’m breaking out the broom.

Thaaaaaaaaaaaah Red Sox Win!

Today we found 2.24 in change and 59 bottles and cans.

What’s better than a Red Sox win over the Yankees? A Red Sox win over the Yankees after Alex Rodriguez homers twice and Mariano Rivera serves up the game winner for a crushing loss. Add in the fact that the Yanks also threw their best pitcher who wasn’t on the disabled list and looks like it’s all downhill for Bronx Bombers now. I wish I could hear my cousin (Yankees fan) after Rivera gave up a five-spot. I’ll bet it was priceless.

Money Report – What a day on the coining finding front! Michele found one penny on her on walk to start things off in the rite aid parking lot. She also came up with a nickel she found at school while holding practice. The evening walk though was where we came up big netting an impressive 2.18 in change (7 quarters, 2 dimes, 1 nickel and 18 pennies). We found our first coin, a penny, near the Black Bear Café. Then, walking down Main Street we picked up 2 quarters lying on the sidewalk. The car wash added 1.56 to the total. Most of the coins were found in and around the various vacuum islands, however, we did pick up a 26 cents in one of the self-serve bays. Finally, we found a dime at Springvale Hardware and a penny at the 7-11.

The Sun Came Out Today!

Today we found 35 cents in change and 50 bottles and cans.

When I woke up this morning there was a really bright orb up in the sky. Yes, my friends, the sun finally showed up today and it was a welcome sight. Speaking of things showing up, Michele’s new dell arrived this morning as well. They’ve got some sweet deals going on at Dell, and I would encourage anyone looking to upgrade, now is the time.

Money Report – Michele snagged 2 pennies on her morning walk with Lexi. The coins were on Mill Street and Pleasant Street respectively. The evening walk added 33 more cents to our total. We found 1 penny in the rite aid parking lot, and then at the car wash added the remaining 32 cents (1 quarter and 7 pennies).

Sox Talk – John Gibbons ought to have his head examined after taking out Roy Halladay with out one in the eighth inning. He’d only thrown 94 pitches and appeared to have things under control. You know where I’m going with this. He brought in Marcum to pitch to Manny Ramirez with a man on and two out and he hit an absolute laser beam to right center to tie it up. They added 2 more in the ninth and Papelbon closed the door. There’s no celebrating though and I just heard a horseman riding by calling out “the Yankees are coming”, “the Yankees are coming!”

One More Day....

Today we found 93 in change and 24 bottles and cans.

This might be the last day of foul weather. Word has it that the sun is going to make an appearance tomorrow, and by Saturday, temps are supposed to be near 60 degrees. Imagine that, we might actually receive some real spring weather. It’ll be a nice change from the 30’s and low 40’s that we have been getting.

Money Update – Our first finds of the day came on our run. We picked up 1 penny on Pine Street and 2 cents on Riverbank. The remainder of the total was accumulated on the evening walk. First we found 2 cents right in front of the Black Bear Café. Then, we found 11 cents in the rite aid parking lot (1 dime and 1 penny). The final 77 cents was recovered from the car wash (3 quarters and 2 pennies). The quarters were sitting on top of one of the vacuum islands and the 2 pennies were lying on the ground nearby.

Red Sox Update – Wakefield pitched well again for the sox only allowing one run to the Jays. Mirabelli homered again which is good see as he had a terrible season last year. Dice-K was brilliant the night before as well but didn’t get any run support. We see Cy Halladay tomorrow afternoon. It should be interesting.

Stalled!

Today we found 19 cents in change and 22 bottles and cans.

Well we’re still getting the rain and wind from this nor’easter. It’s stalled out in the gulf of Maine and it’s not expected to pull away until Thursday. Meanwhile, this raw conditions and cold weather are getting a just a little bit old. I’d really like to see the sun sometime soon.

Money Update – Michele found 4 cents on her walk with Lexi this morning. She found 3 pennies on Barbara and one on Sherburne. On the evening walk we collected another 15 cents (1 nickel and 10 pennies). On our way down Main Street we picked up a nickel and two pennies. The nickel was a washout and the two pennies were lying on the road. At the car wash we came up 4 pennies. Each of the 4 were together, near one of the vacuum areas. Heading up Main Street we snagged another 2 pennies. Then at the 7-11 we found the final 2 pennies in the parking lot.

Red Alert!

We found 18 cents in change and 32 bottles and cans.

It’s been quite a 24-hour period here in our little corner of the northeast. As expected, the nor’easter blew in here with some fierce winds and heavy rain. In the Springvale/Sanford area were received over 8-inches of rain, which made for some really interesting conditions. Rivers overran their banks, winds toppled over trees and general chaos ensued. We took several pictures to give everyone a taste of what the storm was like. Hopefully we won’t see anything like this again for quite some time.
Money Report – In the afternoon, after the torrent of rain had subsided, we took a walk around to get a firsthand view of the situation. As most of you know, after a heavy rain (and this one was extreme), there always seems to be an abundance of new coins because of washouts and the like, and today was no exception.

Our first coins finds were made as we traveled down Riverbank Street, oddly enough. We collected 2 pennies, one on each side of the road. Then, on Pine Street we came up with another 4 pennies. Coming down Allen Street we found a penny as well and then secured a dime on Bridge Street, near the Social Club. The last penny was found in the rite aid parking lot on the ground during the trek for home.

At The Car Washes!

Today we found 1.05 in change and 61 bottles and cans.

We found a variety of change in many different places today. Prior to heading to Somersworth to do some grocery shopping we hit the Springvale car wash to check for change. As luck would have it, we collected 2 dimes in one of the vacuum areas on the ground. Then, at the Black Dog car wash we came up with another 58 cents (1 quarter, 2 dimes, 1 nickel and 8 pennies). 23 cents were recovered near the vacuum areas and 35 cents was found in the self-serve bays.

While at Demoulas, Michele and I each snagged a penny while stocking up with groceries. We also stopped at the Cumberland Farms to gas up which added another 11 cents to the total. Both coins were near a payphone. Finally, at a no-name car wash in Somersworth, we pocketed another 2 pennies. It was a good day for bottles and cans as well.

Today we found 26 cents in change and 16 bottles and cans.

Boy, the Red Sox really gave it to the Angels again today with an 8-0 shutout. Schilling was fantastic, pitching 8 strong innings and getting his 2nd win of the season after throwing up stinker his first time out. The forecast for tomorrow’s game and the Patriot’s day game on Monday (10 o’clock start) are in jeopardy because of another nor’easter slamming into the northeast. The Boston Marathon should be interesting though in those conditions.

Money Report – Michele snagged 9 cents during her morning walk with Lexi (1 nickel and 4 pennies). She found 3 pennies on Ellis, 1 nickel on Mousam and a penny on Frost. We also found one penny on Allen Street during our run. The evening walk added another 16 cents to our total. First we picked up 2 pennies in the rite aid parking lot, then added 6 pennies from the car wash, then finished up scoring with a nickel and a penny at the 7-11 and one penny on Main.

Lots of dimes!

Today we found 1.48 in change and 33 bottles and cans.

It didn’t take long for the snow to start melting from the storm last night. I’d say we received about 4 inches but quite a bit of it is gone as the mild temps worked their magic. There’s another storm nor’easter on the way for Sunday though and we’ll have to see how that one plays out.

Money Update – It was another dollar plus day for us as all of our finds came via the evening walk. First, at the car wash we found 1.21 in coin (11 dimes and 11 pennies). All of the coins were found near the last vacuum area. Next, at the high school, we picked up another 26 cents (2 dimes, 1 nickel and 1 penny) in the various parking areas in front and on the side of the building. Finally, we found 1 penny near the Cumberland Farms on our way up Main Street.

Red Sox Update - Tim Wakefield pitched another gem tonight for the sox. Ortiz and the boys roughed up Lackey from the fifth inning on and soon after that turned into a laugher. I’m going to make a prediction. Josh Beckett will win 22 games for the sox this year. He is really on top of his game and has all of his pitches working for him. Plus he’s finally trusting Jason Varitek, that’s smart!
